Dry Shampoo

Do any of you use dry shampoo? I know “experts” say washing your hair once a week is ideal (with some exceptions, of course), but I imagine dry shampoo is a must for people who use a lot of product during the week or just for people with oily scalps. I don’t have a need for it, but I’ve used it before, years ago.

I've just heard of using dry shampoo for the times you're too ill to get up and take a shower.

I should have bought some so I could wash my hair less with only having cold water. I can’t believe I didn’t think of that! That would have cut cold showers down dramatically.

I agreed that it is really convenient and it can get the itch and oiliness off your hair.

I know of just 1 person who has ever used dry shampoo. I like to wet my hair, it feels fresher and it gets rid of the bedhead look. My hair dresser told me that if I slept on a silk or satin pillowcase, then my hair wouldn't go flat like it does on a cotton pillowcase. But, do you think that I can find such a pillowcase, I may just buy a silk scarf and wrap that around my pillow.

That makes sense. Amyra and Annelyn’s night bonnets are either silk or satin. I can see how that kind of material would benefit a Caucasian’s hair too.

@AmbiePam I should look for a bonnet too. My hair dresser told a client that and one day she came in for a cut and she complimented her on how great her hair looked, and she smiled and said that she didn't do a thing to it but was sleeping on a satin/silk pillowcase.

I have never used it, but I agree that it is being widely pushed. I wash my hair about twice a week. Dermatologist indicated it should be more often, but twice a week is about as good as it gets. I cannot imagine how dry shampoo would feel.

I guess it originated for people who were sick and couldn’t wash their hair when they needed to, but recently I’ve seen a push in marketing to make it more of an every day kind of product.

we used it from time to time. We have lots of humidity here, makes the hair sticky and oily.

I wash my hair every night. It gets itchy greasy and dandruff if I don’t. I’m not a fan of dry shampoo I’ve tried it a few kinds quite a few times.

I can't get myself to try it. I don't like the idea of having "powder" left in my hair, which could get into my sensitive eyes, or onto my pillow when I sleep . . . or the thought of possibly even breathing it in .

I have used dry shampoo when I have had the flu in my younger days but did not like the results. Right now I usually wash my hair in the shower once a week but with this freezing weather I am letting at least a couple of weeks pass by, I certainly don't want to get a head cold with wet hair,

@RasmaSandra I wash my hair every night even the nights that were -10°. It won’t make you sick! I used to walk to school with wet hair and my hair would freeze.

I actually found that baby powder works just fine (and is SOOOOO much cheaper!!!) than dry shampoo (which is just aerosolized powder). I just shake some out on my fingertips and zhuzh it near my roots. Not only does it absorb oil, it also adds body to my fine hair. I love it!

Baby powder is what my mom always told me to use too. She said it was so much better, and she and you were right!

I have a bottle of dry shampoo, and your post aroused my curiosity. I've used it a few times for convenience but have since discovered that frequent use may clog the hair follicles leading to hair loss. I'd rather keep my hair for as long as possible, so I'll be tossing it in the garbage. Glad I saw your post, lol.

Hey, I’m all for keeping the hair I have. I wish my friends a happy birthday this way: “May your teeth and your hair always be your own!” Do whatever you have to to keep the locks flowing.

You just sprinkle it on your scalp, and massage it into the skin. It doesn’t actually touch much of your hair.

I think I used that when I was a little kid in the hospital as I was too close to the surgery to have a regular shower and wash my hair. I guess it works.

I had used it last year when I was warded in the hospital. It was inside a hair cap. While it keep me clean, I would still prefer a good wash.

I've only used it a few times when I was in the hospital and they wouldn't let me take a shower, only those stupid sponge baths, which I hate. Yes, it works, but somehow it makes my hair feel funny, hard to explain but it seems very drying, and my hair is already dry enough, so that's probably why I don't really care for it.
