Trump now wants states to deal with their disasters

Oh this one is rich. He was whining and complaining about FEMA because well who knows? Because he is just a whiny b!tch? Because he is still angry that FEMA helped Puerto Rico which is an American territory? Because it is a federal agency? Who knows! Today Trump was asked about the recent wildfires and natural disasters by his boyfriend Sean Hannity yesterday. Trump baselessly stated that FEMA mishandles funds and he would prefer that individual states handle their issues with their own budgets. Um wanna guess where most of the recent (50 years) natural disasters in the US have been? SOUTHERN RED STATES. These are the same states that suck more money out of the federal budget than they contribute. I double dog dare Trump to defund or destroy FEMA. I would *love* to see what legislators from the south would have to say. I would further love to see how those states deal with a hurricane without FEMA support and relying on themselves.

That's a good one. Well, we did create an admendment way back when that allowed indivual states to govorn themselves. Now yu're complaining that the federal govoronment should but in during an act of god. Uh.... you can't have it both ways. FEMA help for hurricanes..... you're kidding, right? Where were you during Helene and Milton? Where you during Ian and Nicole? Andrew? Fema doesn't do jack for us. they MIGHT set up founds that you have to qulify for... but it's more like a loan. They might set up stations where people can get supplies. But wait..... do you really know has boots on the ground during a natural disaster? Normal people like you and me. We've been doing this, ourselves.

NJ is not well-known for hurricane hits but we did get slammed by Superstorm Sandy in 2012. Yes I lived through that hell. The storm's ground zero was HERE. We had Red Cross trucks driving through neighborhoods each day with hot meals because so many had no power.

@NJChicaa The Red Cross is not funded by and does not coordinate with FEMA. It is a private organization that does not receive federal funding.

@NJChicaa And, the Red Cross as Jim pointed out is privatly founded and has nothing to do with FEMA. They do help out during times of diaster, sure but their resorceses are limited and not a guarentee.

The question is not whether or not we should have FEMA. The question is whether or not we have a FEMA that WORKS. Is FEMA getting the job done? The short answer is no. So, looking into a better idea, or fixing the issues seems like a fair idea. People always want to jump to conclusions when Trump says something. What he really wants to do is to ensure that the programs that taxpayers ultimately fund are actually able to do the tasks on hand to actually help the American people it intends to help. If our programs aren't doing that, we need to either abolish them and come up with new ideas that better serve the public or deeply consider how we fix the programs so they DO work. Just because these programs exist does not mean they are actually helpful.

I would bet that FEMA did more for Puerto Rico than Trump throwing rolls of paper towels at them.

FEMA may not be perfect, but I doubt that Rump will change it in a positive way--

I know that Californians over-contribute to FEMA, but I do not mind. And it's not because the "big one" will some day get us here in the Bay Area. It's just the right thing to do. One has to reason with a balance between morality and selfish practicality. My "standard of living" is not changed because I am taxed a bit higher than many others.

Yes blue states subsidize the red ones in many ways
