We're going with my favorite girls today, "Girl Songs" that is. Not many things can surpass a beautiful girl in a songwriter's mind and the following tunes portray just how much that saying holds true. Let's see how you feel about them. *Comments on the songs, groups or artists welcome... Today's Selections: 1. AMERICAN GIRL- TOM PETTY & THE HEARTBREAKERS (1977) -I can't understand how this song did not chart in the U.S, it's one of my favorites to dance to. The tune is from the first Tom Petty LP, and it became one of their most popular songs. 2. CINNAMON GIRL- NEIL YOUNG -This tune is another one that did not chart well, not breaking the Top 40, but to me it's a classic along with "Down by the River" and "Cowgirl in the Sand." Fun fact: Neil wrote all 3 songs in a single afternoon - while sick with a 103-degree temperature. Although, thinking about a beautiful cinnamon girl did not help get his temperature down, lol. TRIVIA CHALLENGE ***Now for today's music challenge for those who like to figure out who the artist, song or facts are from the clues provided... Words with quote marks provide some hints! 3. This 1967 song has the "color of the girl's eyes" as the title. The tune was banned from some radio stations for the lyric "making love in the green grass." Seems kind of tame by today's standards and not that obscene a place for romance. This artist has "the same last name" as the "lead singer of an L.A. group" who also recorded a popular "woman song." This artist had other popular songs among them "Wild Night" and "Moondance." *Can you name this artist and his "Girl titled" song? Let's solve this artist and song title. Thanks for reading and responding to my music post. Until the next one! Source- Wikipedia and songfacts.com

I think the first if Brown-Eyed girl. For the other two, I'll have to wait till a few more readers chip in.

Yes, that is the correct song name. The artist was Van Morrison (no relation to Jim Morrison).

@dgobucks226 I saw a wax model of Van Morrison in Dublin. He was much shorter than I imagined.

@JudyEv Ha, ha he is short. Looked it up, Van is 5' 5." Funny, many actors are also short in height too.

Facebook meme
VAN THE MAN!!! Always loved that song because most of the songs about eyes were about blue eyes (and, of course, I have brown eyes). This old Facebook meme makes sure that everyone knows the difference between Van and Jim. I agree, I love “American Girl,” too…don’t know how that slipped by everyone, except to say that was the height of the disco era.

Great meme! Good point about eyes. Even Crystal Gayle had to make those "brown eyes blue." Oh well, the charts missed American Girl but seemed to like so many of Tom's tunes after. Great comments! Very enjoyable reading, lol.
