The former Senate Majority Leader went along with Trump's crap all of the time even while occasionally criticizing his policies. He spoke out against the January 6 insurrection attempt but didn't vote to impeach Trump. He has been a pretty reliable Trump vote over the years. . .
until today. Senator Mitch McConnell voted to move Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's nomination through to a full vote and then voted against him along with fellow Republicans Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins. The latter 2 are known to be wild cards but McConnell has always been a reliable GOP and Trump vote. I'm actually kind of shocked (and impressed) that McConnell voted no. Good for him. Maybe he doesn't care any longer because he is coming to the end of his career. Maybe he is pissed at Trump for repeatedly insulting his wife, Elaine Chao, who was in Trump's first administration.
The vote wound up having to be split by VP JD Vance. Too bad there wasn't another principled Republican Senator to acknowledge that Hegesth is entirely unqualified. But as I say with all of this Trump BS I can only say--America you deserve what you get.

Okay, I retract some of the things I’ve said about Mitch. But he DOES look like an old turtle.
