So I went to New York City to be born again. ---------------------Kurt Vonnegut The biggest problem with being a novelist, historian, cultural critic, reporter and political analyst is that I often forget which one I am supposed to be any given day. Thank Wonder Woman, Bat Girl and SuperGirl ((Feel free to substitute whichever trinity of fictional beings that turns you on the most)) for my favorite Upstairs Career Coach, Felicity Fussbudget. She always reminds me of who I'm supposed to be. If she hadn't called in sick this morning, I'd know exactly what I'm supposed to be doing right now...Hold it. Stop the presses! Ladies and gentlemen, I hate to interrupt this post, which I'm sure was going in the right direction and would have thrilled and amazed all of you with its' stunning old-world craftsmanship but I've just been handed a bulletin. Little Donny Dolittle ((President Musk's caddy)) has just hit a home run in his War Against humanity: Hegseth confirmed as Trump's Defense secretary, as Vance casts tiebreaking vote ((Article Linked Below)). It's not exactly good news that an alcoholic racist and rapist is now in charge of the Pentagon. But it is news and I guess that makes me a reporter right now. It's not the story I want to tell you but, as my friend, Donald Rumsfeld, would be quick to point out, “You go to press with the story you have, not the story you might want or wish to have at a later time.” Another story I don't want but am stuck with, anyway is this: Little Donny Dolittle is going to LA today to look at the fires. It marks the first time in history that a natural disaster has been visited by an even bigger natural disaster ((Jimmy Kimmel, 2025)). Don't touch that dial! Because I have even more really bad Tiny Donny news: He has pardoned another batch of heinous criminals ((Trump pardons anti-abortion activists ahead of rally, Article Linked Below)). OK, go ahead and touch your dial now. As much as you want. Because that's all there is for this one. ************* BBC Trump pardons anti-abortion activists ahead of rally Story by Robert Greenall - BBC News • 5h • 2 min read ----------------------------- LA Times Hegseth confirmed as Trump's Defense secretary, as Vance casts tiebreaking vote Story by Lisa Mascaro, Mary Clare Jalonick and Farnoush Amiri • 46m • 5 min read https://www.msn.com/en-us/politics/government/hegseth-confirmed-as-trump-s-defense-secretary-as-vance-casts-tiebreaking-vote/ar-AA1xPnoB?ocid=TobArticle

Y'know, this is the first time I've seen Vance mentioned in ages. I was beginning to think he was no longer extant.

He is alive, but we all know that everything is 47, the whole 47, and nothing but the 47…

Does it violate DEI if someone touches their dial and gets fired for it? I’m surprised they let him into California…more surprised that they let him OUT. Kurt Vonnegut was from Indianapolis. I walked by his museum/library on a trip there last year.

I hope California learned its' lesson. They really need a wall. Kurt is still my favorite writer.

Not a good move. While some of the actions like deportation of illegal immigrants - if done in a humanely manner and reciprocity wish in Tariffs is good, backing out of climate accord, exit from WHO and such moves is not good. And the madness for speed is not good. Quite volatile scenario as of now! So did you also visit NY City? And is the weather freezing there?

I haven't been to New York for days now. It's cold there right now, 38F, 4C, which is kind of warm for January. I am going when they change the name of the Trump Tower to the E Jean Carroll Tower. I hope it happens this week.
