Six days and I'm confused already

I just read this and another thing I am confused about. Which I have noticed happens to me more and more these days. Our country’s politics are a big part of me being confused.
Often, I find myself asking, What? What are they doing? Many things I agree with Trump but as every president in the past there are some things I don’t agree with or just don’t like. It doesn’t matter if I like a lot about what is happening there are always a few things I don’t.
I have to say this one I am confused about. Why with so many things broken in our country and things that I believe need changing are we wasting time on something like this? With the last idiots in the office, they tried to change the way we talk and the meanings of words and now we are changing the names of things.
I’m talking about Trump changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America? Is this a thing? Can he change the Indian Ocean to the Madagascar Ocean?
Seems to me there are much bigger issues he could spend time, effort and money on.
I don’t understand the need to change the name. is it offensive to some people? Did we buy it from someone? I don’t get why he wastes time on something like that.
Is the rest of the world also going with this name change? Does that mean I have to change my world map now? LOL

He can try to change names all he wants, but the entire rest of the world will still call it the Gulf of Mexico. I think he is just catering to his MAGA base and "America First" policies.
And yes, there are bigger problems to tackle than renaming bodies of water.

@Bensen32 I have decided that I am going to call it the Gulf of Florida from now on. Screw Mexico, and screw America. I'm a Floridian, and I'm going to call it Gulf of Florida. It's our Gulf now. LOL
Yeah, we're all going to keep calling it Gulf of Mexico.

@moffittjc You can do that seems we can change the names of things whenever we want to.
I think it's funny that we just do it, and they make news of it like sports stadiums. I get confused with new names all the time. Just an example Mile High Stadium, what is that called now.
An example that is close to my heart. When I grew up watching the Hawks it was the Chicago Stadium that they played at in 1995 it was tore down and a new stadium built called the United Center. I guess building a new place they changed the name but took me a long time to start calling it the United Center.

No, just like the President of Mexico stated, everyone else in the world would still call it the Gulf of Mexico, no matter what our president says. (I hate even writing that donold is the president!) He's an egomaniac and can't stand anything being sane around him.

@DaddyEvil — he isn’t humble enough to just be an egomaniac. In fact, I think “megalomaniac” is too “humble” a term for what he is.

It's just Trump and his big ego at work. Get used to it.

@Bensen32 [. I am certain he considered it. He probably had to be talked out of it

Well, I liked he was not a politician, and I liked the way things were going at least for me when he was in the first time. I certainly didn't think it was perfect and then Biden came in and at least for me things got a lot worse. I'm not sure how things are going to go this time around, but I hope they get better.
Not really sure they can get much worse but still not a big fan of Trump just hoping he can and will make it better for the majority of people.

@Bensen32 — it’s like I said to someone else, Reagan was incredibly effective because he was LIKABLE. I agree with some of these executive orders that 47 has done (especially the one where political flags can’t fly at US government establishments anymore, just the American flag and the POW flag), but I think he’d be more effective if he’d stop making everything about himself and how great HE is, turning off not only the “other party” but a lot in his own party as well. I’m a registered Republican and I find him so odious that I don’t even want to say his name…and I’m not the only one, considering that three Republican senators voted against one of his cabinet picks.

I agree it's not THE most important thing. At the same time, I find it odd that we complain about sensible name changes like changing the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America or changing the Denali Mountain back to Mount McKinley.
In the woke days we were changing town names, school names, holidays, pancake syrup, rice, sports teams names. The difference is, NONE of those changes made sense.
Bigger fish to fry? Certainly. Crazy to change THESE things? Not hardly. And so far, he's only changed two things. Not hundreds.
I don't support everything he does or stands for either. But if there are battles I am going to pick with him, this is not going to be one of them.

I'm not really complaining, I just don't see the sense in wasting time on it. I also thought the name changes of all the things you mentioned though I guess that seemed like what the Biden side did.
I'm hoping Trump doesn't just do things like they did. I want to see better from him.

@Bensen32 How much time did it take to say, "Let's change the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America?" Two seconds. Five seconds if you count the time it took to sign the order.
So far we HAVE seen better from him. He's holding California to the fire (pardon the pun) on the wildfires. He's sending troops to the Southern border and declaring a national emergency. He's rounding up illegals and sending ICE into workplaces where known illegals are known to be working. He's signed orders opening up federal lands for drilling. He's put in place DOGE to break down what the government is spending money on frivolously to remove them. He's looking to retain his tax breaks. He's pulling out of things like the WHO who does nothing for us and who were part of the terrible botching of covid.
He's doing a lot. Believe me, if he does something ridiculous, I will be the first to call it out. I don't give my party or a president I support a pass just because. I wrote a scathing blog scolding Andy Ogles, for example, for introducing a resolution to allow Trump a third term.
If they are wrong about something, I will be the first in line to say so. Besides, he really only renamed one thing. The Gulf. In the case of Mount McKinley, he simply restored the name it had for decades before the left decided to name it Denali.
And think about it, how often do places in the world get renamed? ALL...THE...TIME... Iran changed it's name from Persia in 1935. Ireland wasn't always Ireland, it was the Irish Free Sate before 1937. Thailand was called Siam. Sri Lanka was Ceylon. Zimbabwe was the Republic of Rhodesia. In 2016 the Czech Republic became Czechia. In 2019 Burma became Myanmar.
I could go on, but you get the idea. lol
