My classmate lost her home in Altadena

Who could have imagined? My classmate has settled in America for years and raised a family in the home now grounded into ashes. For some Filipinos they believed America is a haven of joy and it is their ultimate dream to settle there. They have put up a fund raising fund but the amount is small to put up a new place. Is it advisable to go back to a place that looks like a ghost town? One attitude I saw in my classmate is how she approached her fate. It was her son in law who postednon Fb what happened to them.

If it's in the US, then the place that burned won't look like a ghost town for very long. Everyone that lived around her will be rebuilding their homes. Didn't your friend have insurance on her house? That should help rebuild her house.

It is in the US and maybe she has insurance. She never mentions in her FB her plans. She only expresses thanks for the sympathies. I hope people there will recover and make that community again.

@florelway It's hard to know what someone will do until they do it. I hope they make the community again, too.

Will she be having enough insurance to help her to rebuild her house? I hope that she has sufficient insurance to do that. For items of sentimental values for her, it was a pity that she would not be able to get them all out.

@florelway That will be one part. the internal furnishing will be another sum of money that she would need.

I do not know if her home is covered by insurance and if there is I hope it is sufficient to cover the cost of building.

That’s such a sad story. It’s heartbreaking to think about how much effort your classmate put into building a life in America, only to have it all lost. It’s true that a lot of people see America as a dream destination, but sometimes life doesn’t turn out the way we expect. I really admire how your classmate is handling things, though. It can’t be easy, especially with everything going on. As for going back to a place that feels empty, I think it’s a tough choice, but sometimes being around familiar people and places can bring comfort, even if things look different. It’s great that they’ve started a fundraiser, even if it’s not much yet. Every little bit can help, and hopefully, they’ll be able to rebuild and find hope again.

That's true. They've gathered some 10k US from the fund raising which actually is not enough but at least in one way or the other will help them.

I'm sorry to hear that about your classmate. I'm assuming the house had insurance - plus hopefully they will be getting extra aid from FEMA. The intention of the fire areas out here is to rebuild the communities. I hope they will be able to recover.

@florelway Were they able to find a place to stay in the meantime? I truly wish them the best during this difficult time.

I hope too she had her house insured. Good thing there is FEMA. I know they will recover and I hope she can get through the recovery period.

Sometimes you have to. Natural disasters happen and there's nothing we can do about it. But, in the aftermath there's a lot that needs done. It's not a matter of should rather it's a mater of have to. The world doesn't stop just because a fire burned down your home.

I hope she has insurance to cover some of the costs, How did she lose the house? Did this happen in California where they have the big fires?

It is tough to face such a situation. She has to pick up the pieces and salvage her life again. I feel sorry for her. Dreams perishing overnight.

While I was reading news on celebrity houses burned down I never thought the fire also razed up her home. Yes I hope they can rebuild.

This has not happened with other migrants. Many of my family members are well settled in the US. It is just her bad luck
