The Lunar New Year is more commonly known as the Chinese New Year. It marks the start of the new year and begins with the first new moon of the lunar calendar and it ends on the first full moon. The lunar calendar bases itself on moon cycles and the celebration changes a bit each year. This year it is starting today Wednesday, January 29, 2025, and will continue until Wednesday, February 12.
It is also known as the Spring Festival or Chunjie, it marks the end of winter. People welcome springtime and new beginnings. There is a tradition known as Hongbao which symbolizes good wishes and luck for the new year. Lucky money is sent in red envelopes, the red color represents prosperity in the Chinese culture. A traditional dessert called "Nian Gao" is a must-have for the celebration. It means "higher year" and it expresses a wish to be higher and successful each year.
One of the largest Chinese New Year celebrations outside of Asia is in London, England which attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists and residents. It is a nice opportunity for celebrating community and culture and includes dance performances, fireworks, and parades.
In the Chinese zodiac, it is the "Year of the Snake" for 2025. It symbolizes intuition, transformation, and wisdom. Your Chinese zodiac is a snake if you are born in 1929, 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, 2013, and 2025.

Are you among the Snake year people? I am in the year of the rooster and specifically the FIre Rooster and what was interesting that this year also came on 2017 when I lost my husband so whatever power it give sure kept me on my feet. Another interesting thing is that my husband was from the Year of the Rabbit and a Metal Rabbit.
