Friday Family Facetime

We haven't done family facetime in a while. We used to do it often during the lockdown days of the pandemic. Last evening, after I had finished cleaning up the kitchen from supper, my phone went off for facetime from our son. He and his wife and the twins are away for a few days in Niagara Falls for the girl's birthday. They are staying at Great Wolf Lodge, and we thought that they really earned this time away as a family and did not expect to hear from them. Our son facetimed us from one of the pools. It was a shallow pool, there was a big slide at one end and he showed us Harper coming down the slide. We showed us Willow wading around an arm's length away from Daddy. She is such a Daddy's girl. That was only their second time to the pool. They were kept busy during the day with activities, magic shows and fun things for all of them to enjoy. As much as I loved seeing him and the rest of them, and hearing his voice, it did kind of pull at my heart strings. I remember when my parents were my age, and how I had a bit more time as our son was growing up. I spent more time talking to them over the phone and visiting. Moreso as the years passed and our son went to high school and university. I remember the pain that I felt when my Dad's health went south, and he was more bedridden than not, and physically could not spend time with me. And then he was gone, and of course except for my dreams I do not spend any time with him at all. Life and times are just unique in the fact that we love our families, and we want and do spent time together, and we are very thankful that we are in their lives more than we ever dreamed we would be.

No, never the same as in person, but a much better way to communicate than with a telephone.

It was nice. My hubs has been there for the past 2 years, just shy of a few days, for breakfast. He has fed the girls and got them started each morning. Yesterday he took a picture of the girls eating their breakfast in their little kitchen area of their room, and he sent it to Ron and said, breakfast isn't the same without Grandpa. It brought tears to my eyes, it is so sweet, I love that as a parent and child, my hubs and son can see each other 5 days a week. That is rare and so special.

That is so nice for you. I understand how hard it was to watch your father's health deteriorate. We need to make the most of whatever time we've been allotted.
