UK eBay changes / myLot

There are a number of changes coming into force on eBay from the 4th February. I am not sure if this only impacts UK users or all jurisdictions, but I am glad it won’t impact myself. Private sellers are going to be sold a lie that they will sell their items ‘fee free’. What will happen is that fees won’t be paid by the seller but by the buyer. The statement is true to some extent, but buyers will simply factor in the charges of buying from private sellers when bidding and buying. I am a business seller, so the charges will not change the way I operate. Private sellers are outraged by the changes to fees, but they need to understand that business sellers have huge fees to pay, and rivets sellers are very much at an advantage. The other change worth noting is that payments will not be paid out until items are delivered. This is significant, because it will mean sellers either have to post items using eBay recommended services, tracked services, or wait 14 days for payment. Ouch! What are your thoughts on the changes?

The changes could frustrate private sellers, especially with the new fee structure and delayed payments. While business sellers may benefit, it will be interesting to see how buyers react to the new pricing. Overall, it might shift how people sell on eBay.

I think a lot of people who sell privately don’t actually buy anything, so hopefully it won’t impact business sellers too much. There are so many businesses with private accounts it needed addressing
