As I mentioned, I love St. Augustine. I suppose coming here as a child has a lot to do with that. The trolley tour started at the Old Jail (which offered free parking for the riders). After we finished, I looked around for an old artifact…the “bird cage” that my parents had taken video of my brother and me in, WAYYYYY back in 19(censored). A “cast member” (someone dressed in the stereotypical striped prison garb) was standing nearby, so I showed her the screen grab of the old 8mm pictures (left). I think it was a temporary cage to lock someone up before the paddy wagon arrived. It may also have served as a”solitary confinement” or some other punishment. They had leg and arm stocks on display nearby.
