Trump signed an executive order imposing 25% tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico on Saturday. Americans were NOT happy about it because they didn't want prices on everything to increase. The stock market was NOT happy about it. And Canadians definitely weren't happy about it. I wrote yesterday that I have been seeing commercials touting Ontario, Canada as like a huge US trading partner in the leadup to Trump's threatened tariffs. Well sure enough he signed the EO on Saturday. . . and Saturday night Canadians BOOED the Star Spangled Banner at a NHL game against an American team. After that it was booed at a NBA game.
Seriously? Forget all of the economic and international experts and advice in the world. When you have CANADIANS booing the US national anthem--CANADIANS the like nicest people in the world--then you know that you done screwed up. ![](/Content/images/emotes/lol.gif)

Shortly after the stock markets flipped the eff out yesterday Trump had a call with the Mexican president and agreed to pause the tariffs for at least 30 days. Later in the day he had a call with the Canadian prime minister and also agreed to a pause. He of course touted it as a win and the White House said that Canada was "bending the knee". Of course it was all BS because Mexico and Canada agreed to do what they had already agreed to and planned to do under Biden. Trump never lets the truth get in the way of the image that he wants to portray though. It would be comical that his MAGA cult members fall for it if it wasn't so pathetic.

The tariffs, as I have said many times, aren't about tariffs. They are about leverage. It doesn't mean some tariffs may not be imposed. It just means that Trump WANTS something, and he is using the tariffs as a way to get it. The stock market did what the stock market often does. Investors overreacted. And wiser people such as me scooped up the rewards they left behind.
I made a small fortune yesterday just playing the swing alone.
As for Canada, they are NOT a huge trading partner with us. They BENEFIT more from us than we benefit from them. Do we need Canada? No. We don't. Should we be partners? Sure. Should we have interests on both sides? Absolutely. Trump, like in Mexico, wants help on the Northern border and wants fairer trade between our two countries.
Trudeau is out...soon. Hopefully whoever takes his place understands what Trump is trying to do and is more willing to compromise for the good of Canada. The ONLY one in the Canada vs. U.S. fight who is going to get hurt is Canada. They ought to wise up and be careful not to bite the hand that feeds them.
