Waffle House is charging a 50 cents per egg surcharge

Hilarious. My buddy @porwest refuses to pay more than $2 for a dozen eggs (they are currently like $5 around here) and Waffle House is charging an extra 50 cents per egg used in a meal. How many eggs do they use for an omelette? 4? That would be $2 alone on top of the original cost. I think I've been to a Waffle House once in my entire life when my ex and I were attending a wedding in Maryland. We don't have them here in Jersey. Egg prices will continue to stay high due to bird flu (aka avian influenza aka H5N1). Poultry farms are having to euthanize entire flocks of hundreds of thousands of chickens, ducks, etc. due to the virus. No you tin-foil conspiracy theorists--no one is intentionally manipulating the prices. People here claimed that the egg prices were jacked up before the holidays because people do a lot of baking then. Nope. It was bird flu. Would you order an omelette at a restaurant if it was going to cost you an extra $2 over the normal price?

I saw that on the news this morning about the surcharge Waffle House is charging. It probably makes sense since eggs are so expensive but I dont' know if I would order eggs if eating there. It would be interesting to know if their orders decrease due to the surcharge. I think @porwest is going to have to go to plan b since eggs are way more than $2 a dozen these days.

I heard on the radio how egg costs are affecting restaurants . . . . I can understand the surcharge, though I wouldn't want to pay it . Eating out is expensive as it is . . . the way things are going, restaurants are going to be charging way more - won't just be about the eggs. I can make omelettes at home.

@DaddyEvil That's right! We can make 'em with whatever ingredients we want, just the way we want them, and for a whole lot cheaper . We can make them for you too! How would you like your eggs, Sir ?

@much2say I love meat and cheese in my omelets. At home, I also add lots of onions, garlic and bell peppers, too. That just makes the yum so much better! If you and your family want to come over for dinner tonight, I could make eggs for you, too. (I'm actually planning on making scrambled eggs with onions, garlic and bell peppers with some diced smoked turkey for dinner tonight. But, I also have chicken, turkey bacon or ham if you'd prefer.)

I'm sure your cooking is just as good as a restaurant, too.

I would if I rarely went out in the first place. If eating out was a normal thing then forget it. It would have to be a special occasion. Where I grew up, the Waffle House was where you went at 1am to watch fights. When I moved, I was surprised to find out people went there expecting meals only.

It depends on how hungry I was whether I'd pay a "premium" for eggs. I do love a good omelet and Waffle House, at least the one I've taken Pretty to in Springfield, Missouri, made good omelets. (We've eaten there three or four times after specialists' appointments up there.) I like scrambled eggs with "stuff" in it that I make here at home just as much, though, and no "extra' charge here.

They sometimes charge extra here for avocadoes but so far eggs are just eggs.

Tin foil conspiracy theorists? What? Really? Wasn't it Kamala Harris who said ALL inflation was price gouging? Short term memory problems, have you? In any event, there will be no eggs in my house for a while if I can help it. I am just not paying the price. As for the surcharge, I guess they have to do what they have to do.
