My last state park of this trip was….well, look at the top left photo. That’s the name of the place. There are lots of American Indian names in Florida, and Ichetucknee is one of those words. They think it means either “three springs” or “beaver pond.” At any rate, it’s one of those gorgeous, clear spring rivers that Florida is loaded with. It made for a great stop today. There are two entrances to Ichetu…yeah, that place. I started at the northern entrance, where three of the four photos were taken. The boardwalk (lower right) led through an area where you can bet there are probably snakes and gators in the summer (which is why you have the raised boardwalk path). There were people taking a dip in the spring (these things maintain a 72-degree temperature all year, regardless of the “external” climate) in the northern side. You can see lily pads (top left) along the bank of the spring area. Another part in the northern section of the park wasn’t being used by swimmers (although someone sitting on a picnic table asked me if I wanted to cannon ball into the spring [50 years ago he wouldn’t have needed to ask, I’d have been screaming “CANNON BALL!!!!!!!!!” from the moment I got out of the car! ]). I caught a fish! With my camera, of course…don’t need a fishing license for that. In that photo (lower left) you can not only see the fish swimming by (middle of the picture) but also just HOW clear that water is: the “background” below the fish is the bottom of the river. Yes, it really is that pristine. It was a fun stop at Iche….THAT place. PHOTOS: (Upper left) Tram with the state park’s name on it (easier than spelling it out all the time ) (Upper right) Lily pads along the shore of the swimming area in the northern entrance section (Lower left) A fish swimming by in the clear water (Lower right) The walking patch, an elevated boardwalk to avoid the gators.

It's usually easier to say the Native American words than write them... But I wouldn't even venture a try at that one. Glad you enjoyed your visit there.

@FourWalls I've seen some that clear here in Missouri when Pretty and I used to go canoeing during the Summers. We haven't been canoeing in probably 15 years.

Wish I were there now instead of here. Lovely photos. I don't like gators.

I saw one semi-wild, at Silver Springs a couple of years ago. There were park rangers there protecting it from kids while it slept.

And just how high is that boardwalk? Taller than a gator can reach? I hope.

It was a good distance from the bottom. I wouldn’t jump down and test it, though.

Well, the sane people avoid the gators. Reminds me a bit of kingsly lake. I bet that place is georgous. I swear Florida needs to be better about naming things.

@FourWalls Yeah, I know. I had to write a literal book about Florida for a middle school school research project. I still find the name choices interesting, given Florida's history. And, you're right, but I don't think many people can. I probably wouldn't be able to and I'm from here.

No, they’re named for American Indian heritages that were here long before the Spanish showed up. We need to be better about pronouncing them.

In contrast, that place is probably packed and miserable in the summer.

My uncle went to one of those places in Germany. He posted a picture of it on Facebook and I replied, “Yeah, that’s easy for you to say.”
