1941 movie about a person who wanted to jump from the building in Christmas time but it was only a fake news that a female journalist wrote cause the new editor of the news had changed and she couldn't lose her job.
By this letter, new staff decided to keep her and they only needed to find a poor fellow who will pretend to be a man who wanted to do this to himself and who wrote the letter.
Our gentle but persistent journalist wrote John even the speech for a radio show, which he was dying to quit and come clean and getting the money for his elbow surgery cause, he was a besball player, a failed one and that was his goal all this time. But, changing his mind to continue this lie, he noticed he touched a lot of folks out there but all goes south when the news editor decided to become a new politican and was using our John Doe, not suppporting him at all.
John gets cornered at one rally and seeing how things changed for worse, people finding out he was faking it but not listening to his story until the end, he really decides to jump from a building, insuring his honesty to the cause but good people or just the people along with our journalist saved him. Bad guys were on the roof too but they couldn't do a thing.
There are a lot of messages in this movie and a tear on Garry Cooper's face, the main actor, while he was talking to bad guys and all his expressions says it all.
It is a romantic movie with dramatic elements and a little bit political. Very nicely directed by Frank Capra.

@grenery8 Yes, they are! And you are so right. They feel more respectful and chivalrous.

I like a lot of classic movies that were in theaters before I was born since there was no cussing allowed and most of the movies had happy endings.
