So just coming out of lockdown the Hollywood studios were still quiet and productions shutdown inside. But some TV shows got made, Robert Downy Junior's Dream Cars, one of them. With masked production staff the outside shows had the best chance, this one of them, But in that crowded car show sector American TV has bought us, fixed and sold thousands of muscle cars, it still had competition. RDJ is a changed man of late, giving up the bong, girls and cocaine for going all green and eco warrior. His show is an inversion of that traditional format. As an A-List star he has a few cool cars but here wants to set the example by greening up his collection, a beautiful 1965 Corvette gutted and impregnated with an electric motor and transmission, same for his fancy Dodge truck, and the same for his VW bus although pretty much any motor will improve the power in those babies. He decided not to do surgery on his flawless Buick Riviera and settled on putting an ugly air pollution detector on the roof, apparently revolutionary in the car world. You sense at this point in the show he realizes this trashing of combustion engine classics may not be as cool an idea as he thought on spreading the message. When he paints his moms station wagon in an awful mat green and gold the show becomes just a spoilt A- List star just being a wally. Its enjoyable enough viewing for the six and only episodes with some interesting information from the green lobby experts on the future of motoring, which, sadly, appears to be driverless taxes. All this is given a warm tree hug by the likable host and with his colorful and potty -mouthed car mechanic buddies alongside doing the sacrilegious mechanical work you just role along with it. Like any daytime TV its not too challenging and goggle-box snacking filler.
