My Childish Brother

My big brother, my only sibling at that, is so childish. Even though he is ten years older than me and is a 38 year old man with a wife and two kids, he acts like he is still 18 years old. Sleeked back hair using mousse, leather jackets, too much cologne, tattoos, ear piercings, ripped skinny jeans, working on beat up cars in his garage shirtless in the middle of winter, and then there's his extremely loud and dangerous motorcycle to top it all off.
I wish he would grow up and be more considerate of his safety and how he presents himself to the world. He goes around acting like he is some edgy 18 year old guy with the way he dresses, his countless tattoos and piercings, the way he drawls instead of talking properly. He is always so loud and boisterous in all his actions. He rides his loud motorcycle around and the entire neighborhood can hear him when he comes and goes.
He is supposed to stop riding his motorcycle so recklessly now that he is a married father of two young kids, but he remains childish. I pointed out his behavior numerous times within the family, but nothing changes. If anything, I get ridiculed for being negative and judgmental when all I'm trying to do is keep my older brother safe so he can stay alive for his wife and kids.
If my sister-in-law, niece, and nephew lose their husband and father, what happens to them? They love him so much. They are such a solid, loving family despite all my brother's misgivings so all I'm trying to do is gently guide him in the right direction with soft advice and try to make him a more responsible father despite the fact that he is a grown adult who should know better.
I have my own misgivings myself. When it comes to other people, I give up easily. After facing so much ridicule for my opinions regarding my brother, I have decided to officially step back and observe from a distance because at the end of the day, my brother's life is my brother's life. It's really none of my business.
This is a bit of a rant I decided to post because I can't focus on anything because of his loud motorcycle revving up and down the street because he is so forgetful and probably forgot to bring something home which he needs to go back to wherever he went an hour ago from.
Please become more mature, big brother. Please. Just my wishful thinking, but hey, at least I tried.

He is married and his wife is there to worry about him. I think you shoudl stay away. Anyway I doubt if you can change him and then the parents also see his behaviour.

@lilacskies Instead of wasting your time on him you should spend that time for yourself which you need badly

@allknowing Of course. Just thought I would rant about him a bit because I feel frustrated by his actions.

He lives next door so I worry/think about him due to close proximity, but yes, you are right. I'm just frustrated with his behavior. He's too old to be acting like this when he has a wife and two kids. He's been married for 15 years now, but acts like he's a single man or at the very least, a young teenager.

Yes, I have come to realize that and have given up. He must become mature by himself or his wife and kids will suffer.

@lilacskies Circumstances make people mature. My younger brother was also like this, and with time he started understanding his responsibilities.

@sjvg1976 He is too old to still be so immature. 38 and married for 15 years now. Kids are so young. They need a mature father who can be a true breadwinner for the household. It's frustrating.

He will not change until bad circumstances do it for him. Meanwhile, it is your sister-in-law's problem and worry.
All the worrying on your part only aggravates your ill health.

I know. He's going to get into a terrible accident one day and ruin everything good he has in his life. I need to stop worrying. This is really none of my business at the end of the day. It's only because we are so close in proximity that he keeps catching my attention.

Sounds like he still thinks he's single. Sometimes it takes something rather dramatic to happen before a person gets the message.

Yes, that is exactly it. He thinks he is a single man instead of being a married man with two very young kids. He needs to grow up and realize what's at stake here. He needs to remove the motorcycle from his life and straighten up. A 38 year old husband and father has no place being reckless when he has a wife and two very young kids depending on him.

Yes, his wife has no control over him not that she even tried. She is only bossy with my parents and me.

I can really feel your frustration, and honestly, I get it. You care about your brother and just want him to be more responsible, especially for his wife and kids. It’s tough watching someone you love make reckless choices, and even tougher when no one takes your concerns seriously.
But you’re right—at the end of the day, his life is his own. You’ve tried, and that’s all you can do. Maybe one day he’ll realize it on his own, but for now, stepping back might be the best move for your own peace of mind.

@lilacskies I really hope everything falls into place in the end. Sometimes, people need time to realize their mistakes. Just keep holding onto that hope.

Finally someone who truly gets it. When you love someone and that person is making bad decisions with his life despite being in a position where he needs to look after people who are literally depending on him, there is a lot of frustration involved. Yes, you are right. That's all I can do right now. Step back and observe. Hopefully, he will become more mature and if not, well, then his wife and kids will suffer and my parents may or may not finally get involved.

Yes, he's my only brother. It hurts to see him being so reckless with the one life he has.

Yes, I don't bother anymore. I tried and it wasn't working. I was just ridiculed in the end. I couldn't take the verbal abuse any longer so I took a step back and decided to just observe. It's really none of my business, but he keeps catching my eye with his antics.
