Good morning dental gift from god almighty - ONLY FOR WOMEN perhaps

Evil Grin The morning newspaper spoke of teeth regeneration....now....that pleases me very much...I have sweet tooth, and I naturally have a few missing ones.... So Dr. Katsu Takahashi (The Japanese are after my heart...and now teeth too) an Oral Surgeon has discovered a way TO REGENERATE MISSING TEETH. I did not stop there and get over excited like @TheHorse, @DaddyEvil, etc. would have done.... I read further.... It reads that the feat can be achieved by deactivating a protein USAG-1 , which is UTERINE SENSITIZATION ASSOCIATED GENE - 1). Now...that sure is good news for us womenfolk....but I am not sure it is for the men.... I mean, can men have a gene for Uterine Sensitization....highly unlikely.....which means...for now, they have to sport the caveman teeth...with gaps etc....while we women can become beautiful once more.... Does look like God is warning these male species to behave themselves....does it not? Evil Grin

@vandana7 Not an issue, I have strong teeth so far and hope they remain as it is in the future too.

Not really, think some god is trying but there must be a big God, he says Trump gets to do what he wants until it creates a problem.

Reading the original paper, it seems they are using an antibody to de-activate USAG-1. You would think that this gene might be already de-activated in men, but in fact it is widespread and involved in the development of many organs including teeth (genes are generally given a name when they are first discovered in some particular role and then later they are often found to have many other functions).

It sounds good in theory but what if the teeth keep growing and we end up looking like Bugs Bunny?

That is what clinical trial is all about. About 20 years ago, I read that some researchers are trying to develop a kind of chewing gum from different material. So the dentist will sorta use nano tech to develop a transparent frame which will be deeply implanted frame, and the chewing gum will get into those cavities...thereafter, the dentist will just finalize the shape to get the right kinda smile. I was actually waiting for that one, before I came across this. :)

@JudyEv My mother's side of the family tend to have an overcrowded mouth of extra teeth. I even had extra permanent teeth extracted in my teens. We don't want more teeth .

Oh it is still in clinical trials....which means ...a few more months down the lane. Regeneration normally takes three months.

This would change dentistry - big time! I've heard about this, but I have not looked into the process . . . I hope it is safe and without side effects.

@vandana7 I hope they continue with stem cell research. A friend's son was somehow getting stem cell treatment for his cerebral palsy . . . apparently it had helped him walk/stand better. Oh but teeth - this could affect every one of us . . . better to have real teeth than fake ones (if possible).

I will have to look into that, it sounds rather far-fetched. But as far as genes go, we all have almost all the same ones, but they are activated in some organs and de-activated in others.

Oh the procedure may arrive in India in about 2 to 3 years from now.....we will survive.. But with every new procedure, the costs of the old procedures go down....so it is a win win situation
