Relying on technology for habit formation a reliable solution?

Some of my friends have started using apps for creating new habits. Waking up early, exercising and food control, upskilling and expense monitoring are most of the things they are using the apps for. They say the apps are AI driven and set reminders and bring accountability. Some of the apps do provide daily motivation and they say it helps them to stay consistent. I on the other hand feel that we are over depending on technology especially when it comes to habit formation. Notifications can sometimes be distractions and not positive reinforcements. Plus, for habit creation -intrinsic motivation and personal commitment is what is needed and not adherence to digital tools. Using the digital tools should be like an aid. So what is your opinion - Relying on technology for habit formation a reliable solution?

aalrm clock, we all have that and maybe some apps but to entirely depend on something, i'm not sure i can do this; i like being a bit independent and still write down some things

Well, I agree on the alarm clock. Entirely depending on other apps is something I was not sure if its good to go in that direction.

those apps help in a way but it is still the determination of the person to do things that will prevail. It will just give them reminder but up to them to act on it

@RevivedWarrior true, even you use so many apps but that person is not willing to do it at a particular time, the apps cannot do anything

Exactly- It is determination of the person to suceed that counts. The apps can just aid and nothing more.

If it helps one can make use of technology After all it is for one's good that it is used.

You are right- it depends on the person who uses the same.

I think it depends on the person, or the app. I am blind, so I use technology to read and write and keep track of my schedule. If used correctly, apps can actually help you in your daily life. For example, some people need to up by a certian time of day. An alamr clock app, can make sure the person doesn't over sleep. Some are even designed to help the user wake up more naturally.

I definitely agree with your point.- it all depends on the person and the app. Well, some people overly depend on the app for their habits. I am not against depending on apps . It is just do not just overly depend on the apps for habit formation.

@RevivedWarrior Some apps are necessary, not because we're dependant on them, but our brains are designed to only take so much info in. So, a calandar app is not a bad thing (and is handy for the person on the go), Or, as stated an alarm clock. While the body will naturally adapt to whatever sleeping routine, underlying circumstances beyond our control play a role so an alarm helps ensure we're getting up on time even if we have a bad night.

I am not comfortable with it, I still have to rely on my hardbound planner to remind myself of my schedule and things to do for the day. I don't know, I got pressure when something keeps my gadget beeping. I don't know, I can't last doing my planning in my didgital planner, I need to write it on paper. hehehe. I think I am not that techy girl.

Overly depending on technology may not be helpful in long run. We definitely need to be self-reliant. Technology can aid us but cannot control us.

It seems to me we are becoming too reliant on outside 'things' to do our work for us. We really need to take accountability for our own actions and habits.
