The temp hot about 40 degrees celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit). I had a later start to work at 9 am this morning and couldn't get space in the usual parking lot which was covered. So I ended up parking in the open parking lot which is completely exposed to the hot sun. Needless to say, it was drinking hot in the car when I got in! Any tips on ow to keep the car cool during these times?

I guess the covers that you put in the windows and over the steering wheel would help a little bit.

I've been surprised at how hot the steering gets here in Australia.

@pitstop A shut-up car gets incredibly hot. No wonder babies and dogs die so often when locked in cars.

I should cover the steering wheel. It's annoying driving after the car's been parked in the sun

You should always try and park your car at the multi-storey car park whenever possible. If it is not, find a place with trees as shade. I also seen people pulling the sliver radiation pads to ward the sun away from their windshield to reduce the heat in their car.

Hopefully it will cool down a little over the week. I should use those sunshades. I have them in the car!!

I know the feeling! It is brutal. Had the exact issue and almost the same temperature last summer here. It could be worse than an oven. And no matter how low the AC is put , it takes at least 20 minutes to cool and worse tough to touch the steering wheel. I use two tips and they have worked to some success for me. One, as I leave my car , I keep two of my rear windows slightly open. This helps with airflow and reduces the heat buildup. You can do this in any secure area. Second, I keep the windows open for 2 minutes after I enter the car and then close all windows and put on the A/c. The air outside would be cooler than the one inside the car. These two has worked and helped in reducing the air heated up in car. Try them!
