$2 Trillion

That's what DOGE is seeking to find. $2 trillion worth of cost savings to the American public by looking for waste, fraud and abuse at taxpayers expense. While many are arguing "loss of services," what is being targeted are NOT essential services or programs, but frivolous ones that waste taxpayer money and serve no useful purpose for the American citizens who pay for them. DOGE, very simply put, is simple common sense. It's OUR money. Not only should we want it to be spent purposefully and wisely, we should not want it wasted, and we should not want it sent outside the country for certain causes and people who have nothing to do with the United States or our interests. When you start to see where this money is actually going, it's enough to make your blood boil. Is any of it going to child hunger causes, battling poverty, improving infrastructure, or anything important? No. It's not. The money being targeted is simply being wasted on stupid and foolish things. If you think about how much $2 trillion is worth to you, consider it this way. There are roughly 350 million people in America. That's $5,741 for every single American. That's nearly $6,000 you will send to the government to fund all of these frivolous things. Do YOU have $6,000 to blow? If not, why are you so willing to give it to the government by force to waste FOR you? And why in the WORLD would anyone be angry at someone SAVING you $6,000?

There’s been waste as long as there’s been a federal government. Look up William Proxmire and his “Golden Fleece Award.” BTW, exactly HOW is badgering longtime allies like Canada and Greenland saving us money???

Can I just say duh? What's your point? And Trump is looking into and trying to reverse some of it. He's the ONLY president in American history to ever do that. Granted, it's too soon to call it a success. But you have to give him credit for DOING something about it.

@porwest — my point is if he’d stop the stupid $#!+ he might have a lot more cooperation. We have a dozen territories and the District of Columbia that he can make states without infringement on the sovereignty of another nation. How would YOU like it if King Charles declared that he was going to reclaim America as part of the British empire?

@porwest Biden killed the economy? are you insane? Look at the jobs numbers. Even Maria B couldn't hide her shock at how good they were.

Good idea in theory but so far a hot mess. And I don’t trust Elmo as far as I could throw him.

A hot mess in what way? So far it is estimated that DOGE is finding $1 billion a day. I mean, did you know FEMA spent $59 million on hotels for illegals? What does that have to do with disaster relief? USAID paid $20 million for Sesame Street programming in Iraq and $2 million to Guatemala for trans surgeries. How does this help America? How does it improve education? Reduce poverty? Or take care of American interests?

It's crazy seeing the things they are uncovering on a daily basis. And it's even crazier to see that many of the fraud programs they are uncovering have democrats behind them getting rich off of that fraud.

It's part of the reason they want big government so badly. It's easier to steal your money when they have multiple ways of doing it. And it's easier to do backroom deals when you have multiple ways of not directly showing you're making them.

Musk is doing a great job cleaning up all that waste. And he is not even getting paid for it.

@NJChicaa You forgot the word "unfairly." Musk's companies were being regulated for his political views. Why weren't they regulating him and going after him UNTIL he started espousing conservative views? Explain that one. When Musk was on their side they were happy to have him on board. Only when he switched sides did they decide to go at him.

Granted, Musk's a bit of a goofball. I have always said that about him. He's awkward, and a little weird, even. But hey, you have to give the guy cred for his intelligence, his business sense, and lately, his common sense. He's going to have great success with DOGE and I think taxpayers will thank him when his job is complete.

Long, long overdue and about time. Can't call it a success yet, but at least the effort is being made.

It's amazing to me anyone responding would be opposed to saving taxpayer dollars unless they oppose the audit because it was Trump's idea, and they hate Trump. Trump and Musk are trying to identify waste, abuse, and fraud in the federal budget at a time when the U.S. is $37 trillion in debt. Some of the expenses uncovered do nothing to advance our standing in the world as you so correctly point out. The other argument some like to make is it has always been like this. What kind of logic is that? So, you want to continue to be ripped off and pay more in taxes for wasteful programs? Pretty dumb argument seems to me. Musk was told by DODGE there are currently over $100B/year of entitlements payments to individuals with no SSN or even a temporary ID number. If accurate, this is extremely suspicious. When he asked Treasury how accurate this might be, Musk was told at least 50 billion is obvious fraud! Yet, the Democrats are screaming about DODGE checking the books of each department. Democrats have totally lost it! Trying to break into the Department of Education and liberals chanting songs of protest about Musk and DODGE. And the legacy media chiming in with their "constitutional crisis" rant. Will they ever learn. The reason the Democrats don't want the agencies audited is because they want the uncontrolled spending to continue. Why, because most of the programs go towards progressive liberal causes. The fact that Democrats are fighting the first real effort to root out waste, fraud, and abuse from our government is a very bad look, from which one can only draw a negative inference. Sad...

It's maddening on all counts and for all the reasons you stated. We are at DANGEROUS debt levels. It has to be nipped in the bud at some point, and Americans should be REJOICING that someone is FINALLY taking a deeper dive into things. It's OUR money. It's OUR future at stake. It's OUR kids and grandkids who will have to suffer for this if we don't do something now. We SHOULD care more about the money than who is looking into it. But then that shows what people's true colors are just like it blasts their climate crisis claims right out of the water when they now must make an EV car maker into an enemy JUST because of his politics.
