Eggs!

Have you noticed the price of eggs lately? I was going to get an 18 count container but it was over $8 at Walmart! Luckily for me, my son raises chickens and can give me some eggs. We don't use that many eggs, so a dozen will be fine, but goodness gracious that's crazy high on the pricing and I heard it is to go up another 20% before they start going down. Who can afford these prices? I feel sorry for bakers who have to have them. I don't have to have them for anything and I'll skip them when necessary just to keep from using what I have on hand.

That's a good buy. I hope they last you until they go back down again.

I was not going to buy any at all. My cousin got me a dozen from a farmer. She would not le me pay for them so I do not know what they cost.

I think the farmers are charging a meager price for them and not gouging people. At least that's what I hope!

I heard the news that the eggs are very expensive because of the bird flu. Hope it will decrease soon since eggs are common food and they should not be so expensive.

I did not know why they were so expensive, I just had not heard anything about it. Thank you for the information.

Yes, my daughter was ordering groceries yesterday so I asked her to check on the price of eggs. When she said they were $8 for an 18 pack (what I usually buy for $2), I told her we still have one 18 pack in the fridge and I'd make it last. She agreed that $8 was way too much for eggs. I usually use 3 eggs for scrambled eggs with "stuff" in them for breakfast or supper. (I like onions, garlic, bell peppers and some type of meat as well as some spices as the "stuff" when I'm cooking eggs.) Sometimes my daughter takes half the eggs and sometimes I have leftovers for another meal. We use very few eggs for anything else so it's not really a problem for us. Eggs had been cheaper here in Missouri than any other state... but that doesn't hold true anymore.

@trbr22 If we knew anyone who had chickens and sold eggs, we'd buy them... But we don't. I grew up eating fresh eggs and drinking unpasteurized milk but we don't have chickens or cattle anymore. My daughter will be 36 in a few more days but she doesn't do much cooking. I normally cook for both of us. When she does cook, she makes quinoa or rice, neither of which I will eat. Your hubby doesn't like to cook?

My son raises chickens, so I can get some eggs any time I want them, but I don't care for fresh eggs, they are too rich. But I don't eat eggs that much, I do cook with them often. Something is always calling for an egg or two. My husband likes eggs, but he doesn't eat that many either, probably because I don't care for them, he doesn't ask me to fix him any, but I would be glad to fix his and I've told him this.

@DaddyEvil He likes to, but he is unable to, he has ALS and it is taking away his ability to move. It is a horrible disease. No cure, no real treatment and it is terminal.

@trbr22 you might want to get as many as he's willing to give them cause you may not be able to get what you want in the stores.
