This amount in PH peso is equivalent to 1,200. This amount could buy essential things at home. Ten years ago, $20 could buy one sack of white rice ( 56 kilos) and then after six years, $20 could buy only 30 kilos of white rice. This year, $20 can only buy 7 kilos of white rice
. There is a huge difference . It is no longer funny. I pity people whose income is below poverty line. Rice is a staple food in the Philippines and this makes us gain energy . We need carbo from rice because of the extreme temperature in the Philippines especially during summer when when the heat is sweltering. If buy other other essential things, like fish, for example, $20 could only buy 4 kilos of fish, for chicken meat, $20 could buy only 3 kilos, beef 2 kilos, How could ordinary people survive? Crimes may soar and monkey businesses may happen.

Wow! It seems the price is too high in your country. I think here normally $20 can buy about 14kg of white rice, at least 5 packages of eggs (each package is 30 eggs), 30 kgs of flour, 1.5 kg of beef etc. It is hard to say about fish as there are many kinds of fish. Chicken are not expensive and I think it's no problem to buy 4 kg of chicken.

Bread, a dozen eggs, a pack of strawberries, a gallon of milk easily becomes $20.

With US $20 I can buy the ingredients for around 5 to 7 days if I don´t buy any luxury. A kilo of rice (not the best) can be bought for a bit over $3. And I can buy a whole chicken for around $10. Pasta will be another $2. And the veggies are getting more expensive each day.

For 20 dollars here I could buy half a tank of gas or 4 boxes of cereal, a haircut, maybe a few pounds of beef, a gourmet pizza, or a cheap pair of shoes. Everything costs a lot these days.
