This is a failure fix

I found this from https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/54932096 and hard to believe this is not a joke but a real news. It's a sculpture in Spain and it needed a fix after it was worn as time went by. However, after the fix, the sculpture looks ridiculous and this is a real failure. In fact I have seen similar case before when people fixed the sculptures in a temple. The antiques are ruined and they are brand new and have stupid looks

Perhaps they wanted to fix it to avoid further damage.

Probably an art student could do it far more better.

I have seen photos of BAD art fixes (we are a family of artists, so we get a kick out of seeing these). I don't know why these people were ever commissioned to do art repair - it is quite obvious they had no clue what they were doing.

I've seen similar news articles where someone who isn't/wasn't artistic tried to "fix" a painting or sculpture that was damaged and didn't know what they were doing and completely ruined what they were trying to fix. This is the example that comes to mind first.

@youless I think someone wasn't thinking and just let the wrong person do the "repairs". I hope they can all be fixed by an experienced repair person.

Yes, it is too difficult to fix it back to the original look.
