Good morning, friends. Brenda Lee is a singer from the time I was a teen. And the songs she sang made me learn a lot about the US. A few years ago I was curious about what Jambalaya meant. And with the aid of Google I read the lyrics and checked what it meant. And a big world of recipes opened in front of my eyes. I was sorry that I didn´t know it before. I went twice to New Orleans before google was part of my life and I did not taste all those southern dishes. Now, thanks to a film in Netflix, I got into another one of Brenda Lee´s songs. She sang about jumping the broom and through Google I, now, discovered that it was a way the African Americans had to get married in the times of slavery. I´m happy to learn about old uses through songs. And I loved to listen to Brenda Lee again. She is an incredible singer. Have you heard her?

Good morning. No, I rarely listen to any music and her name isn't familiar to me. I'm glad you enjoyed her music/singing.

I remember her very well. I knew about jumping the broom but I didn't know she had a song about it.

@JudyEv And the story is very interesting. It comes from the time where Black Americans were slaves. They weren´t allowed to get married.

Little Miss Dynamite!! She’s 80 now. I got to say hello to her at the grand opening of the new Country Music Hall of Fame back in 2001. Wow, is she short. (Not that I’m tall, but she’s 4’10” or so!) Is this the song you’re talking about?
