Polar Plunges

This is a winter tradition where the participants run into cold bodies of water. It is done mostly to raise money for local charities. The first one recorded was in Boston in 1904. They often take place on New Year's Day or Boxing Day.
These may help to lower blood pressure or help with insulin sensitivity. Some studies even suggest that your overall heart health improves as the body adapts to the cold-water immersion.
Personally, I don't think I could do it. I would die of fright when my body hit the cold water. I'm not a polar bear. What about you?

I would not run into a cold water run under any circumstances.

I have done it in our back yard pool in the middle of winter before. It was really quick. It's a shock but surprisingly refreshing.
