Fiction or Based on a True Story

When you think back, not to the movies you’ve seen, but to the ones you actually enjoyed, do you prefer movies that are fiction or based on a true story? There is a movie coming out soon with Woody Harrelson and Samu Liu that is based on a true story. “Last Breath” looks like a great suspenseful movie, and although I know how it ultimately ends, I’d still see it. While I like the true stories in movies , I think I prefer the ones based on nothing but a good imagination overall. What do you guys think? *Thank you to those who checked on me this week. I appreciate it!

I prefer fiction, there is enough real life drama in everyday living. I haven't seen you post in a bit, and I was going to put up an Amber Alert post, I'm glad that you are back.

I prefer animated movies when watching by myself. If someone else is watching with me, I'll watch anything they feel like watching. I'm sorry, I noticed you weren't active but thought you'd gone somewhere with your sister.

My sister IS trying to get me to go somewhere with her, but that has taken a weird turn I hope to get to later. So if you like animated movies, have you seen the one done on musician Pharrell? You know, he did that “Happy” song and does hip hop. Not our normal cup of tea, but they did an autobiographical movie on him, and he insisted it be animated.

@AmbiePam No, I didn't see it. I won't read autobiographies/biographies so sure wouldn't watch a movie like that, either. Oh, I'm sorry. I thought you'd gone and was hoping you were having a good time.

@DaddyEvil pass the popcorn. About the only time I watch movies is at my brother's house and is what my SIL picks, so mostly animated, and cute or funny.

I prefer fact, but you know how movies are, even if it is supposedly a true story there is a lot of dramatic license taken. A good yarn is a good yarn though..true or false.

I guess even with true stories we have to be open to a lot “based on”.

@AmbiePam Yeah, and sometimes those based on a true storyshould say loosely based ona true story. I saw a movie last week that said based on a true story, and it was not. It was based on a short story..Some film makers have figured out if people think a story is true, they are more likely to attend or watch

Hey, if I want reality all I gotta do is go out and about so for me it's gotta be fiction, particularly sifi like star gate or star trek.

I enjoy both fictional films and those based on true stories. If it's a well done story/film then I'll enjoy it. I'll watch things based on real life stories that intrigue me so I'll sometimes have knowledge of the story first. There are some that are shown quite inaccurately, and others that stick very well to the truth. Knowing the ending is OK for a true story. I feel the films based on them are more to explore how they got to such an ending. I've watched a few films about serial killers. One based on Aileen Warnocke had me in sympathy with the killer. Another, based on Jeffrey Dahmer, was so awfully done that I stopped watching after about 20 minutes.

@AmbiePam yes, that's the one. I think it's Christina Ricci that plays the best friend. We're waiting for the next Wolf Creek film. When the first was made, they didn't know who the killer was. Now they do.

I don’t think I could watch one about Dahmer. Aileen, that’s the serial killer Charlize Theron played?

I actually prefer fiction but won't not watch something based on real life if it looks good. I was starting to worry when I hadn't seen you in awhile but I wasn't here very often this past week either.

I like movies that are either inspired by true events or based on real events like the Rocky Balboa franchise on a boxing match between Muhammad Ali vs Chuck Wepner according to actor Sylvester Stallone who attended the closed circuit boxing match.

I can like either. But with the ones based on a true story, you just know some things were stretched with artistic license. And then I will spend too much time looking up fact from fiction on the internet . Hope everything is ok . . . nice to see you back .

I prefer pure fiction. Because most of the time when they make movies "based on a true story," they tend to embellish the truth and add creative content that may not have ever happened in the "true story." And then you walk away from those movies questioning what parts were real and what parts were made up for entertainment purposes.
