Gas prices skyrocketing in the Bay Area! What has happened?

We had a refinery fire in Martinez a week or so ago here in the Bay Area. I was paying $4.39/gallon a month or so ago at my local "discount station." But I was able to score fifteen gallons at $3.89 or so in a "rough neighborhood" when I went to my friend's house to play music. Prices then went up to about $4.69 at my local station. But the other day, as I passed by my local discount station, the price for a gallon of gas there was $5.15. I had never seen a jump like that in my life. Are gas prices changing where you live? Over the years, gas prices rise, but I have never seen anything like this before.

Gas prices are rising here to the point where I have given up on the one hobby I was passionate about and that is night drives. I love the atmosphere, the vibes, the lights, everything. I love how the streets are deserted and the cars don't clog up the streets like in daylight. However, due to gas prices, that one hobby that actually motivated me in life is out the window. Oh well.

I am sorry you have had to give up one of your passions. Where in the US are you?

The prices were under $3.50 when I drove by some gas places yesterday. I have not went by Costco it is usually a little bit cheaper there.

I read this morning that gas prices are up a bit in Montana and Missouri (some of my "comparison places"), But nothing like the jump we have experienced here.

Nope. My brother took us to the laundromat two days ago and the price of gas was $2.80 a gallon. A quick search online shows that's still the price for gas at Walmart here. (We put gas into his car when he brought us home again.)

@TheHorse We can only hope that's the problem there.

Maybe it's just the refinery fire.

@DaddyEvil I am not sure what our current president is doing to bring gas prices down. Eggs are up here by almost 50 per cent. In less than a month.

I think they're up more in my neck of the woods than in other States.

We filled up today and the price was really low in our terms. It wasn't low everywhere but there were queues at the service station we went to.

The price of everything seems to be rising in the US right now. I am not sure why.

We got gas yesterday at the place we normally get it for $2.75. We then went to the East side of town and found it for $2.71 a gallon. I live in Panama City, FL

I do that kind of things here too. Gas is still under $5 in the Barrio.

The fire might've had something to do with it.
