Stampede deaths - the second time at this Year's Kumbh Mela

I am reminded of Terminator 2 or was it Terminator 3 - the kid teaches the machine where to find the car keys and asks ..are we learning yet... India has seen many stampede deaths over the last decade. You could easily say it is because of our population. But there is more to it. I remember the 2017, September 29th case at Elphinstone bridge. 23 dead. What should the leaders have done? Immediately start repairing all the over bridges. What did they do? La La La La put Statue of Unity the tallest copper building up there...in October 2018. That is how much they value our Indian lives. But if another person hurts us, I will be shouting on root tops, till I get some compensation, and then the issue will be let to die out. We are managing with infrastructure that Britishers built. Without repairing and upkeep. We need the money for other things. Right? 30 odd years ago, when I used to go to Mumbai for exams, I used to see the gaps in the flooring of the over bridge. I used to think...what if my foot got into this...but there is heavy traffic on the bridge everyday. So it would be better to build another and demolish this...but politicos prefer to lose some lives before acting. Then they can blame the past governments. For some reason there are more stampede episodes since 2014 than there were in 60 odd years since independence! You would think this government would take lessons from the 2013 Prayag Kumbh Mela episode. But that did not happen! I would simply tell companies like Coca Cola and Pepsi, come on fill some ganges water in these small bottles. And sell. Let people use a lid full in a bucket full of water. That should be equal to a bath in Ganga river. Half the members who traveled to the site, would think traveling in those crowded trains is not worth the effort. But politicos do not seem to want to solve the issue.

I recently visited Kumbh last Friday, and I didn't find any traffic jams or much of a crowd; maybe I was fortunate. But yes, when we were moving back home, the crowd was increasing, maybe because of the weekend.

Factors ...such as holidays, and auspicious days. In any event, I would think a cap of Gangajal (water of river Ganga) will have as many molecules to give us decent dip at home if that much water is mixed in a huge bucket. You want to do it in sunlight...simultaneously...take that water up ..on terrace get drenched, say your prayers, and return. Everybody should anticipate stampede, after that girl mentioned the crowd.

@sjvg1976 Why is that non-religious? Comes in 144 years...great....but we ruin all that by peeing and sending our poop to our holy rivers....that qualifies as religious. Nope...I am religious because when I say molecule of water touching our body, I say in that lives the goddess. You are not religious when you say you need so much of water to feel the goddess. When a person is dying, you give just 1 teaspoon of gangajal, isn't it? Not a whole glass!!! So why is it different now. And there can be little babies who are not gonna live that long to see another mahakumb. There can be elderly who cannot go there. There can be sick or injured who too would not manage to go there, and the part you already know ....not enough trains to transport people. Why not let those who can accept my logic stay back reducing the rush? And why not the elderly who cannot go there, feel the satisfaction of the blessings of the rivers? I keep a plastic bottle of Gangajal at home. Always....but I could die on the road...Lady Di style. So I am religious but also a realist. Ultimately it is god who has to decide the merits and demerits of my karma.

Of course the government doesn't want to solve problems... You haven't paid enough in bribes for them to do their jobs yet. And, if you'd stop feeding the cattle on the road, then they wouldn't chase you when the food runs out.

I feel sad when lives are lost. It disrupts many lives. The future of children becomes uncertain.

Yes, it is because of the mismanagement. Number of people visiting it is more than the government expected.

It's amazing how some issues are just allowed to get worse and worse.
