I watched another Rotten Mango podcast and this one was about a man who tried to make a movie and show of the book The Three-Body Problem by Cixin Liu. He was killed by a jealous co-worker. The book and show sounded pretty good so I decided to watch the show and listen to the audiobook. They did change some of the characters in the show.
Big Warning: there is some violence and disturbing parts. Semi-Spoiler Below.
In this book and show, a woman named Ye Wenjie sees her father die in front of her. There was a movement against science and her father was a science professor so they killed him. Years later she meets a reporter who has an English book (which I might end up reading) and she reads the book. She is caught with the book and sent to prison. While there a woman comes to get her to sign some papers, but she refuses to sign them. She is later sent to a top secret base on a hill. They want her knowledge about astrophysics. She is order to stay on the base forever and not to talk about what they do there. She is told they are searching for weapons, but she is later told the truth. They are searching for aliens. They are trying to make contact with aliens. She makes some figures and finds out that they aren't reaching far enough. She sneaks and tries her theory which works! She does get a message back. With all the hard troubles she had experienced, she says to the them she will help them to get here to Earth. Many years later, scientists die and one scientist helps the police solve what is going on. But they learn that it no matter what they do, the aliens will arrive in 400 years time.
Note: I do agree that humanity is almost gone. There is so much hate because of our president. Not just us, but around the world too.
I'm now listening to The Dark Forest by Cixin Liu. It's the second book of the Three-Body Problem. By the way, I read there will be another season of the show.

It sounds interesting. I have been watching The Whale on Netflix. It's good. I think Brandon Fraser won an academy award for it
