Not as much as predicted, so far

The snow did nto start until after 1:00 this morning. It sure is not as much as they thought. Maybe two inches. I can still see the streets. However, looking at a radar map I can see another band of snow is going to sweep from west to east later today. If it does we will likely have another snow day tomorrow. Bob says he saw three Bald Eagles in the field across the road yesterday. Normally you find them closer to bodies of water, so I am puzzled. He did say they were around the water connections that we use for festivals in that field. I wonder if the water line broke or something. Usually we see them by the rivers and lakes nearby. This is a prime winter area for them. I was able to get in here on my first attempt, and it is not even 8 in the morning. Maybe I shall have a second cup of coffee.

We just got lots of icy coldness. I am spoiled. We have had moderate winters the last two years. It is 5 F right now in the middle of the afternoon.

That is way more than I would want. I guess I could come and we could build snow forts at your place.

Maybe something happened to the areas they usually frequent. We used to have bald eagles here as well but developers have destroyed all their hunting grounds plus the Rio Grande barely exists if at all anymore. I'm not so sure I like 'progress'

We are about twelve miles from the closest lake, but there is a big river nearby. I wonder if these are young and got forced away or something. I have seen them battle before.

If they have white heads then they are about 4 or 5 years old or older

They winter in this area, so we do see them more often.

Weather forecasts are not always accurate, don't rely too much on them. Prepare yourself the best you can to face every possibility. One of them is I always bring an umbrella when entering the rainy season we don't have snow here.

I never completely believe the forecasts. It is good to be prepared. I almost always have a coat with me, even if I do not think I would need it.

@GardenGerty Yes, that's right, as the saying goes 'prepare an umbrella before it rains.'

I wonder if they would still cancel school due to the temperatures, and or wind chill.

Well, this is Wednesday, with no school. Wichita, Ks. the closest big metro area has cancelled for tomorrow. I have a feeling I will have work tomorrow.

Around 1 am is when it started snowing here, too. But we don't have much on the ground. It's a really fine snow that mostly glitters instead of being visible flakes falling. I don't think we even have one inch on the ground yet. Here is what the local weather map is showing right now... Image is mine taken from the internet.

Glitter snow is an apt description. Most of the day yesterday that is what we had. It is the kind of snow that squeaks when you walk across it. We had about one hour of the feathery kind.

@GardenGerty We ended up with a little over a foot of snow by the time it quit. A grader went down our street this morning but, apparently, didn't do a good job. There were several trucks driving quickly up and down the street beating the snow down until one of them skidded off the street and into a yard. (I think they were trying to knock the snow down enough that cars could get in and out.) If my car was running, I think it could drive down the street but I'm glad it's not. I really wouldn't want to try it. How are you guys doing today?

It's always good when you get less snow than predicted. Hopefully the next band that comes through doesn't amount to much either.

We are ahead of our averages right now, and the snow provides slow moisture. We have not had much this time, though.

Touch wood but just about every time the site has been down, I haven't been on here so that's a good thing. But overall it's a bit of a worry.

The snow is not heavy as predicted, perhaps for now. Hopefully if the next band moves in, it would not be much of a trouble (though an extra snow day may not be as bad as other things). It is interesting share about Bald Eagles. Unusual to see them away from water. Perhaps something in that field has got their interest and attention. Your theory about possible water break is definitely possible. Anyways, seeing three of them together is a sight to be captured. A second cup of coffee sounds like a good way to start the day. Enjoy the time!

We are about twelve miles from the lake, maybe less as a bird would fly. We do have a couple of good sized rivers around the town I am in. Fish is the preferred food for this type of eagle, but I am sure they would also eat small rodents.

Lucky Bob who got to see the eagles! I see seagulls and sea is at least one driving hour away, so birds are just unpredictable I guess. I wonder if it’s a matter of territory where they need to explore new places because the usual ones are crowded or simply lack resources.

It may be that young ones (eagles) are having to push into new territories. Or there may be a water leak for them. I have seen times when the local lake was topped with frozen waves.
