I might have just killed a lizard

I am petrified of lizards. I have a phobia of lizards-maybe that's a better way of saying it. So I was closing the windows this evening and unbeknownst to me, a lizard got caught in the hinges with its head pointing towards me. And I thought it would wiggle its way out. (I was also scared of the lizard jumping onto my hand if I place my hand there to open the window). So, I called mom to do it and guess what she too is scared of lizards but just won't admit it. So, I waited for dad to come back home from office. And when he opened the window, the lizard was already dead! I am guilty of murdering a lizard now The ants are devouring it's dead body. It's heartbreaking to watch...more so because I killed it. Have you ever accidentally killed some living being you are afraid of? How do I get over this guilt?

I killed a bird once. It flew low while I was driving and I hit it with my car. I refused to look back or anything. Thankfully there wasn't any remnants on my car.

@Dreamerby You just have to remember that. It was an accident.

Try to think of it as the bird got away. One hit my windshield once but was able to fly away from the danger. Always be hopeful. Never give up on that.

You have so much empathy. I applaud you for being such a kind individual. Well, I haven't killed any animals so I don't really know how one would get over the guilt. Distract yourself with other things perhaps.

Yeah. I am doing better today. But the fact that had I mustered up the courage to open the windows at that time, the lizard would be alive is still kinda pricking me.

I'm sorry you killed it but it was an accident and now, the ants are having a good meal. It's the cycle of life... You have to think about it like that. The lizard didn't go to waste.

Wow that's another way of looking at it. Thanks! I hope I will get over it soon. Anyways life of a lizard is difficult. Moving from one place to another in search of food and getting chased away by other humans. It's in a better place now maybe.

I once ran over a raccoon. I had no choice; there was oncoming traffic on the other side and a dropoff on mine. That was bad enough, but the trip home was worse. Another raccoon was standing over it, swaying back and forth. I cry every time I think about it. It was the worst thing ever. I'm sorry about the lizard but it was not your fault. You did not mean to harm it. Forgive yourself.

No, I never killed any creature knowingly or unknowingly. Don't feel guilty because it was an accident; you didn't kill that lizard intentionally.

You didn't mean to kill it and fear is nothing to be ashamed of. It was just an accident.

Just hope that something worse doesn't come along to take your mind off the lizard.
