The best news I can think of in this dreadful winter is that I’ll get to watch a Spring Training game in a little over 48 hours. This has been a pretty nasty winter here. To be fair, though, most of our winters have been pretty mild over the last 15 years or so. I guess you could say we were “due” for one. Doesn’t make my like it any more, though. We’re dealing with a double whammy here. We just went through a pretty significant rainfall event. At one point, over the weekend, every county in Kentucky had a flood warning of some type. We had nine fatalities, according to the governor, from the flooding. All that rain has saturated the ground, making it easier for wind and “heavy” snow to topple trees. The photo is the result of that. I didn’t investigate closely, but it appears that it thankfully did NOT hit any buildings or vehicles, just blocking a street. My day, and the forthcoming ones, was/will be spent inside. After the predicted sn*w tonight and tomorrow it’s supposed to get into the single digits F. That means all the roads will be frozen. I have a freezer full of food, and either tonight or tomorrow I’ll pull out the crockpot and make another batch of infamous potato soup (recipe: bag of frozen O’Brien potatoes, container of chicken stock, whatever else you want to put in it [this forthcoming batch will be including a bag of frozen chopped broccoli]; hence, the name, because it’s infamously easy to make!). Everyone here is fine, thankfully, and if you’ve got bad weather I pray you’re safely enduring it, too! PHOTO: Tree on street.

I'm glad the tree doesn't seem to have hit anything. Blocking a road is okay, though. That encourages people to drive out-of-their-way and maybe, see something new. We're getting snow right now. The forecast keeps changing the amounts they expect us to get. It was 6 inches early yesterday, then 11 inches last night and now is 9 inches... However much we get is too much, in my opinion. Please be careful and stay warm.

Thanks, Daddy Evil. You too. (They tell us to check on the elderly, so you’ve done your part…I’m fine. ) I’m right with you, one flake is too much additional white stuff.

@FourWalls well it did & we've been in the low single digits for the past 3 days, & I may be looking at 1 of the 2 dogs I have left passing away, I hope no but it's not looking good.

The other day we were very low on broccoli. I had planned to make broccoli and cheese soup for dinner. I got creative and added cauliflower in with the broccoli. My husband hates cauliflower, but ate the soup and said that it was really good. He didn’t even know there was cauliflower in it until I told him.

Then he threw up, right? Lots of people are like that…don’t like something but will eat it unknowingly. I need to try that, by the way, mix cauliflower and broccoli in the soup. Thanks for the idea!!

Glad it didn't hit anything. We already have that nasty cold here. And I can't take it back because my mama taught me to share

It’s not yours. Canada sent it and insisted on a tariff to take it back.

We are hunkering down too. We are expecting 1-3 inches of snow followed by bitter cold. My heart breaks for all the devastation your beautiful state went through over the weekend.

The mountains are like what happened in North Carolina with the hurricane. Just funnels that rain down the hollers.

@FourWalls That is what I thought when I saw all that rain Sunday going through your state. Absolutely heartbreaking

It looks like Mother Nature is taking revenge on the human race. So many natural disasters left and right.

We haven’t had a “bad winter” in a long time, so it’s just “evened out.” This still beats ‘94, with the 16” of sn*w and the temperature hitting -22 right after.

Thank you for your concerns. Well…we didn’t get any. Less than an inch here. Not that others places weren’t walloped by it, but not us. One more round then the deep freeze.

I have been inside for over a week now. Tomorrow morning early I will take a walk in the sunshine fpr twp blocks to the convenience store. That is a big deal to me so you can imagine how happy I will be back inside again.

I couldn’t do that. It drove me crazy staying here for my Covid quarantine. Thankfully it was comfortable enough so I could walk around my backyard.

It’ll be here before we know it, and we’ll be griping about the 90-degree temperatures and 90-percent humidity. That’s the way we silly humans are.

There’s a reason they refer to an “average,” it means half the winters are WORSE.
