This is book 4 in a 6 books Secure One series by Harlequin Intrigue. I do have the next two books and am anxious to get to them. I'm also really behind in reviews. Harlequin is no longer just a romance novel publisher. They have sub-genres, including Intrigue which this book falls under. ~~~~ When a fourth woman is found dead in a river, security expert Mack Holbock takes on the search for a cunning serial killer. A disabled vet, Mack is consumed by guilt that's left him with no room or desire for love. But while investigating and facing danger with Charlotte - a traumatized victim of s3x trafficking - he must protect her and win her trust...without falling for her. ~~~~ Secure One is a security company made up of former military individuals. They also all have a disability of some sort. Katie Mettner is an amputee herself and has decided that there is not enough representation in books. Every member of Secure One has a disability of some sort. Women and Men. These stories prove that people can overcome their disabilities, be strong, be lovable. In this story Secure One are guarding the birthday party of the daughter of a high level politician. One of their concerns is teenagers going near the river behind the home. Two girls did go down to the river where the discovered a body which turned out to be related to other women's deaths of young women. Though the case is turned over to law enforcement, Secure One continues to investigate on their own. Romantic Suspense is one of my favourite genres... two genres joined together to make really good stories. These books are suspenseful with heartbreaking issues involving the people working within Secure One. These stories should be read in order. I am really enjoying this series.

I would be interested if it didn't have romance in it, but since that's the main plot, I will pass.

These books are very short. The main trope is the intrigue, the romance is a smaller trope in the book. If there was no romance these stories would be novellas.

You are right that just because a person has a disability, does not mean they are useless.
