I Caved...Oh No!

I guess at the end of the day, I'm hardly broke. I have stuck to my laurels for the most part when it comes to egg prices. The last two dozen I got I bought at $1.99 each, and I have one egg left from that batch. The best prices I can find are $3.99 a dozen at Ruler and $3.49 a dozen at Aldi.
I just wanted eggs. Sue me for caving and going back on my word. I bought two dozen today at Aldi for $3.49 each.
I guess I am not completely going back on my word. A mantra I live by is to save on the things you need so that you can afford the things that you want. In this case, I guess I wanted eggs.
So, I got them.
I mean, in life the reality is that sometimes you are simply backed against a wall, and it just is what it is. I will use 8 eggs for a scrambled egg dinner tonight with ham, onions and green peppers as well as shredded cheese. If I account for the one egg at $1.99 a dozen and the remaining 7 at $3.49, the total cost of my egg portion of the meal still only comes to $2.20.
I guess I can't complain too much about that. With the rest of the ingredients my whole meal might cost me $4. That's not awful.

I agree with rakski and lilacskies. Enjoy those eggs, life is short.

@porwest I just boiled, but not wasted, 6 eggs for a catfish stew today. I usually cook eight.

One thing I never do is to calculate how much a dish I made would cost . Just make it and eat it

@porwest I watched my money when I was in the process of saving it. Now the process is over. Time to spend it

@allknowing Well, it's okay to spend SOME of it. But the idea is to spend the PROCEEDS, NOT the principal. There is a difference, you know. lol
In other words, you spend the money the money makes, NOT the money that makes the money.

Don't worry, we won't tell anyone you're weak.
Eggs are too good to skip for long... We used the discount from Ibotta and got another two dozen eggs. *shrug*

@DaddyEvil Yes. THAT I can live with. And you're right. MOST of my weak moments are indeed food.

You use 8 eggs to make scrambled eggs? If you do then not much eggs left over for next egg meal lol. When I do an omelet or scramble I use one egg or two depending on size. If hubby is also eating then total is 3 or 4 eggs. I’m egg frugal lol.

@porwest perhaps I should not restrict myself and have two eggs instead of one lol.

@lovebuglena For me, one would simply never be enough.

Well, yeah. It's the two of us, so that's technically only 4 eggs each, and of course, it's a dinner batch, so it needs to be filling. If I were to make an omelet it would most likely be a 3-egg one for myself. I gotta eat. A 1-egg omelet for me would be, "why bother?" lol. Even if I eat fried eggs, I eat two of them.

I hate to look at it from the perspective of "best price now" when I compare what the best price should be based on where they were. Of course, that's also not the reality. Egg prices are what they are now, period, and if the going rate in most other places is over $6 a dozen, I guess I can't complain too much about eggs at $3.49.
