Check Your Floor Gaps

If you live in an older residence in need of floor repair, then you may have floor gaps. For those of you who have them, please check them and make sure to clean them. I found a slice of lime today that was stiff as a cardboard. I know. It sounds gross. I had to wear a latex glove to pick it up because I have several hang nails and I didn't want to get them infected.
I don't know how this mysterious slice of lime ended up there. It was farther away from my desk that has a little table type mechanism attached to it for me to rest my elbows when I'm watching a movie and even put bowls and plates of food if I'm eating in bed.
I suspect it may have fallen off one of my plates/bowls and landed on the floor. Then I may have kicked it and it rolled into a floor gap. I don't know. I overlooked cleaning the floor gaps and that's how I managed to overlook this lone slice of lime. I had a laugh when I discovered it so I thought I would share.

We do live in an older apartment. Section 8 Housing. We just had some new carpeting put in the upstairs. Cheap but works. The downstairs is vinyl. I'm glad you could laugh.

@lilacskies ........I like hardwood floors. Carpets are just one more thing to keep clean. The floors are easy enough. I like to laugh and to make people laugh. Mylot does have some funny folk.

All the floors are hardware here due to my parents' allergies and weak lungs. The dust wafting up from the carpeting floors worsen their health so they removed all the carpeting and had hardware floors done. This was done way before I was born. Even before my older brother was born. Thank you. I don't laugh much, but on occasion, I do. I find myself laughing more on here though. There's some really funny posts on here.

@celticeagle Me too. I don't like walking on carpeted floor. The texture feels weird against my feet. I like to laugh too. There are some funny people on here. I find my laughter here.

I often eat in my bedroom although I shouldn't.
Then your case is a little different, you're much more justified to eat in your room than I am.
Well, not a big deal as long as I make sure it's always clean because bugs don't mind visiting the third floor. I had an army of ants invading a pack of cookies once, and it was on the desk. So I learned my lesson.

@lilacskies I think the fact lime is a bit acidic makes it rot more slowly, you were lucky somehow!

@somewitch You are probably right. I tossed it as soon as I found it. Never making that same mistake again. I'm going to check properly from now on.

Yes, I am in bed a lot due to my health problems so I eat near my bed. The lime slice didn't reach the point of rotting, but it was really stiff. I will make sure to clean every nook and cranny from now on. I learned my lesson too!

Ours is a old house; one of the oldest ones in our town; but we don't have any gaps on our floor.

@lilacskies As I told you our house is old. It was built around 90 years ago; but there is no gaps on its walls or floor.

That's interesting! I can't speak for houses in other countries, but floor gaps occur in old houses here in the US.

I know, right? I laughed at how incredulous the situation was. You are welcome. I will check every nook and cranny from now on.

That is interesting. Finding a mystery lime slice definitely adds some unexpected adventure to cleaning. I definitely agree how things can manage to disappear into smallest spaces and resurface much later! The good thing is there are no issues with smell. There are things which could rot and we would take time to figure the location and where it is coming from. Worse to clean that mess would be some challenge. I am also double checking my floor gaps after reading this discussion. I do not want shocks or surprises that might be lurking here and there. Take care!

Yes, it didn't reach the point of rotting yet, but it was stiff as a board. This is why it's important to clean every nook and cranny, but I overlooked the floor gaps completely while cleaning. I'm not going to make that mistake again. That's for sure!
