It's garbage day today as I call it and as of this moment, I am waiting for the garbage truck to pass our area. I have my garbage ready. However, it seems that my neighbors had already thrown their garbage because earlier I heard the child about 11 sor 12 years old who usually throw garbage ask the lady next door if she will have her garbage thrown. The child did not come to my house so here I am waiting for the garbage truck. I usually let the child throw the garbage in exchange of a few pesos. According to the child I only have very little garbage this time since it is only me and my daughter who live here.

Will that be considered as child labour there? Earlier we had such practices here too, but now with strict rules and punishments against child labour, we don't see them much. I am sure that it is not totally abolished, but reduced drastically, at least not in open.

These children voluntarily ask us if we will let them throw our garbage. They were not made to do hard labor. Our country is also against child labor but I think this throwing of garbage is not included. They will just bring the garbage to the truck which maybe less than 10 meters away.

A lot of kids will do little chores for money. My kids pulled weeds, ran errands, and shoveled snow for pay. One sold stationery and cards. They spent most of their earnings on junk food and saved some.

I don't know if it is considered exploitation. The children came to our house and ask if we will have them throw the garbage. They volunteer themselves. Mine is just a medium size garbage bag which is very light. I guess that is also true with some of my neighbors. Besides I seldom have my garbage thrown by them.
