Such sad news

It doesn't impact me but I'm still upset about it. My ex-husband's cousin's husband (say that 3 times fast) had the flu and then crashed rapidly and wound up in the ICU in critical condition with his kidneys shutting down. She said something in a video update a few days ago about bananas from a hotel but I don't really understand what the connection was to that. Anyway she understandably looked awful and exhausted. She had asked earlier for people to consider making a donation so she could sleep in a hotel bed instead of in an ICU chair. I Venmo'ed her some money. I am still on good terms with all of his family and care about them. He was transferred from a VA hospital in Maryland to a "better" one in Philadelphia about a week ago. In the last update she said he was still in critical condition but that there were signs of possible small improvements. This morning my ex texted me that her husband had passed away last night. He was just 41. His 2 young children are in elementary school. I am so so sad for them, for his wife, and for all of his family. I only met him once (well twice) the weekend of his wedding. They were married on 7/7/07 and it was absolutely the most beautiful wedding I've ever been to. It was also the hottest as we roasted in 105 F degree temperatures on the bank of the Chesapeake Bay. Still I have great memories of that weekend. What a tragedy.

That is such sad news. Blessings to the family and I will put them in my prayers.I don't know about the bananas but if he had been traveling I know lately I see news stories about people getting sick in resorts from food and drink and other stuff.

I don't think they were traveling anywhere exotic. I'll have to rewatch the video update. I did text my MIL (I still call her that) and she only mentioned the flu but said that a healthy person couldn't have survived what he went through and he was already not in good health.

I just saw somewhere else that the flu had landed a person in the hospital. Freaky. I am very sorry for your loss. Terribly sad.

Oh, how terrible. And so young, with a family. I am so sorry for them all.

We are so used to being able to fix our medical problems easily, and we forget that sometimes illness is insurmountable. I am so sorry, that is very young for him to pass.

By chance, do you know if he had any problems with his kidneys? I have some kidney issues stemming from a medication a previous doctor prescribed for me. She didn't check to make sure the meds were working correctly and they started shutting my kidneys down. It took nine years after she told me to stop taking the medication before my kidneys regained 90% of their original capacity... I was told never to eat more than one banana per day or it could adversely affect my kidneys. (Kidneys have trouble filtering out excess potassium from the blood. If the kidneys get overloaded with potassium, they can shut down. NORMALLY, it would take over 400 bananas a day to affect the kidneys but, any problems with the kidneys before eating bananas can cause major damage.)

I truly don't know. My MIL said that he wasn't in good health even before this but that's all I know.

Life takes strange turns all of a sudden. He was too young to die. My heart goes out to his young family.

This is why Covid and flu are so dangerous as it finds our weaknesses.. Antivaxers dont understand that certain people will only lose that battle.
