Well it isn't really surprising. He has served in the Senate for 40 years. He gave up his Senate Majority Leader for this Congressional term. He has been seen freezing and staring blankly for many seconds while in the middle of a statement to the press. He keeps falling. He also has recently voted against some of Trump's cabinet nominees which would make re-election difficult since the MAGA cult was enraged and Elmo promised to primary anyone who doesn't support Trump.
I do like the fact that McConnell voted against some of Trump's cabinet nominees. However I will never forgive him for what he did to the US Supreme Court by blocking Obama's Merrick Garland nomination many months ahead of the 2016 presidential election when there was a possibility that Trump would win and then ramming through Amy Coney Barrett just weeks before the 2020 election when there was a possibility that Trump could lose. His actions have done serious damage to this country. That will be his well-deserved legacy.

I’d like to see him quit now, but he won’t because we have a Democratic governor who’d appoint his replacement. Worse, that makes Ron Paul’s equally awful offspring our “senior senator” now (or when McConnell leaves). Ick.

It is time a younger person took his place since he wants to step down now.
