Chicken Pot Pie Might Become Chicken Pot Mush

I have made chicken pot pies in the past and they have always been good. But this time, it seems the pie crusts did not fit the round dish I use for these. I mean, the mixture should be good, and the crusts should brown nicely, but I wasn't able to put it together like a traditional pot pie. Oh well. I can't imagine it will taste bad even if it won't hold together like I am used to. Hmm. I might have to shop Goodwill and see if I can find a smaller "pan." Either way, that's what we are eating tonight regardless how it turns out. What is going on your dinner table tonight? @FourWalls, I already know it's your elbows.

No, it’s true: one night he said, “what’s on your dinner table tonight “ and I replied, “My elbows.”

It was delicious and held up well enough, all things considered. I must have used an extra large pie crust before. That said, I'd do it this way again.

Why should it not taste good? It is the ingredients finaly that make a dish

@porwest My mother used to say if you have attempted to make dosa but the batter is thin then it will be pancakes - both are tasty

@allknowing Sometimes mistakes are just as good or better than what you intended. lol

That's a good point. I was more concerned with presentation or that there might not be the right ratio of crust to filling. But it turned out to be very tasty even if not necessarily "traditional."

Beef stew, since I had fake beef (Boca burgers) for lunch.

Beef stew always satisfies. As for Boca burgers, I have never had those, but I HAVE occasionally had the Impossible Whopper at Burger King, and I don't mind it.

@porwest — Boca burgers are the better veggie burger (store bought) to me. Morningstar Farms, as I remember them, tasted like bland veggies, not meat.

@FourWalls I have seen them in the stores. Just can't bring myself to pay the price for them.

I used the premade store bought crusts. But the last time I must have gotten an extra large crust or something.

We just snacked this evening, before and after shopping. I am finishing a hummus on whole wheat English muffin and chowing down on Harvest Snaps black bean snacks with mango, chile, lime flavor. Homemade crust or store bought? Are they a victim of "shrinkflation" ?

I made chicken pot pie once. It didn't hold together well but I don't know what I did wrong. When Pretty told her mom the pot pie split open in the oven, her mom called it "slops" and told Pretty not to eat any... *sigh* It tasted fine so I ate it by myself. For a while after that, if I started a new recipe, Pretty would ask if I was making slops again. It really pissed me off. I started asking if she'd prefer I make broccoli instead. She hated and still hates broccoli. She learned not to call food I made slops! I hope your pot pie tastes fine. I made four cheese noodles with ground beef and fried potatoes.

I love Marie Callender pot pies, but I know homemade is better.

Well it doesn't have to look good to taste good. It'll do.

Very true. I think I was concerned about the crust to ration filling being different. But it turned out just fine even if it did not "present" as traditionally. I have ever been one for presentation anyway.
