Good day to you all. Hope you all have a good weekend. I went to work today and was going to work for half a day on my day off, but we caught up so quickly I was only there 3 hours and 45 minutes so it’s a little more that will be on my check. I was looking through the news feed today and I was just laughing. The stories how bad and good Trump is doing since taking office. There is so much back and forth, I can’t tell what a real story is and those that are just made up. I can’t believe anything anymore. LOL I swear all the stories are just made up to make him look good or bad depending on who is writing it.

I agree that there is no objective news stories anymore. The spin is always positive or negative, depending on if the write likes the President or dislikes the President. Whether Trump is doing a good job or not is a matter of opinion; but one cannot argue that he isn't at least trying to get things accomplished.

agree, I don't get into politics all that much, I look at some of it and it's all over the place. It has always just been opinion and now it's more out there when everyone on the web is an expert.

Um, what do the "make him look good" stories talk about?

Always nice to get a little more on the paycheck. Well, when you are getting one of course. I am retired. But if I WERE working, I would always advocate for more money. lol As for the news, the best thing I have found to do is to turn it off, open your ears and eyes, and find the truth for yourself.

Yes, but you have to try to find it and then weed through all the BS

@TheHorse I read the bills. I look for the biases which are easily found in how someone words something. I look at the sources and their positions to find their slants and leanings. I look at actual data. And behind it all, I use cynicism and critical thinking skills. I also do my best to rely little on my own biases so that my conclusions and judgements are less clouded. I give ideas and claims the benefit of the doubt first, THEN examine them critically and honestly on their merits. It doesn't mean I always get it 100% right. It just means I get much closer to the truth and much closer to actually being right.

Sounds like a productive day! Getting some extra pay without having to work the full half day is definitely great and a big win in my books! As for the news, I totally understand what you mean. It is definitely hard to tell what is real and what is fake news these days. Every news outlet has their own angles and back and forth can be exhausting. Perhaps the best approach would be to take everything with a grain of salt and perhaps cross check references if any. Else, still to any neutral unbiased new outlet for time being. And I definitely agree it is easier to laugh at with the whole mess!

It's good to hear you could render extra work on your day off - translating to a little more on your paycheck. Here in our location, rendering extra work on a day off means lots of explanation why one has to do extra work. We need to 'convince' the employer why the task to be done on a day off hasn't been done on a regular weekday. And sometimes, even if one can secure approval, the extra pay would be questionable as to when it will be paid or if it would be paid at all...

Oh well to start they asked me to come in and work so it's there idea not mine. As for pay, we have the law that says they have to pay us there is no question about that.
