Last day in North Carolina

They wound up rescheduling the marine corps infantry school graduation to noon on Friday. First we went to the wrong base. Then at the correct one they have heightened security measures in place right now so me not having a live id and only having a drivers license was a little issue that caused a delay. We made it in time though.
Sadly most parents flew in on planes for the graduation and when they changed the date due to “extreme weather” they couldn’t stay the additional day so there was only about 15 families there watching it. I knew one boy as he is my first husband’s cousin so I took a photo to send to his mother. I’m so thankful to have been able to watch this special moment I my stepsons life.
Afterwards we were just sitting around in the hotel and I was antsy. I decided to make a run to Walmart and find a geocache too. Found the geocache which was an adorable gnome home but I forgot my wallet back at the hotel. I had a headache from lack of a second coffee and was flustered from forgetting my wallet so I just went back to the hotel and stayed.
I was getting very homesick. I missed my slippers, my housecoat my delicious coffee etc.
At 4 my stepson got weekend release so my husband picked him up and we along with his mother went to Golden Corral to eat. My husband had never been there before but it was as good as I remembered it being years ago. The carrot cake was the best.
I finally finished a book I had been reading and I loved it so much. It was “The choice” by Nicholas Sparks.
My little one went to bed fairly early before 10pm. I was exhausted enough I slept through the noisy hotel neighbors.
Photo was a wall I just saw in the McDonald’s we went to.

I'm glad you all got to see the graduation and had a nice meal with your stepson and his mother. (I've been to the Golden Corral in Springfield, Missouri several times. It really is a good place to eat.
)
I'm glad you slept well the final night before you left.

@Daddyevil ironically we found out that my stepsons mother was staying in the same hotel we were when I complained to her about the hotels lack of conditioner
.
Me too I had been severely lacking sleep up until then.

@snowy22315 it does look nice some of the places we drove through. Jacksonville was far less busy than I was expecting it to be. We had to make a pit stop just now in Tanglewood. We came down on the highway the fastest route but on our way home we are going along the coast. I just said to my husband everyone down here has an accent and how I sound funny to me but I get to everyone down here it’s us that has the accent. This accent I’m hearing down here that everyone has sounds cute reminds me of a coworker I used to work with when I was a teen I think she was from Arkansas though.

@snowy22315 yep he goes on Monday to Chesapeake Virginia. He will be doing security school but they aren’t ready for him yet so he will be in holding there could be until April. Maybe it will be nice weather and we can see him over a weekend and take him and my little one to Virgina beach. After that he will be deployed out of the country he’s hoping to Japan.

@shaggin Does your stepson know where he is going to be stationed yet? Big accomplishment graduating the marines, not everyone can do that.

I’m glad you got to attend. Gee, I never thought about canceling the graduation over weather issues, but it certainly could have happened to me (I went through boot camp in Florida, so they were/are susceptible to hurricanes).
I remember that carrot cake from Golden Corral. Yum!!!

@Fourwalls wow you are a brave one to have gone through boot camp. What branch of the military would that be for?
How neat is this the book I’m reading right now by Nicholas’s sparks mentions getting flowers near Camp Leguene in Jacksonville NC. Fort leguene is where we went to first that was the wrong base.

@Judyev yes I feel so bad for those families who flew in and couldn’t stay for the extended date. It he boy goes home in a week but if it were my son I would have wanted to be there to watch that accomplishment. Maybe she couldn’t get the time off at work as a new teacher this year.
