Ancient Egypt ~ Birth Control

4000 years ago it was common for women to stuff crocodile dung mixed with honey inside themselves. This was a physical barrier to keep the sperm from reaching the egg. The honey was used to prevent infections. Vinegar-soaked sponges were also used to block the cervix to change the PH and make it harder for the sperm. They believed that sneezing or kicking high would expel the sperm. IUD-like objects made of glass and metal were also used. These practices may seem ridiculous but it should also be noted that it was less than 100 years ago that Lysol was advertised as a contraceptive. in 1956 Gregory Pincus developed the first birth control pill. To suppress female fertility they are even thinking today of using large doses of melatonin. The picture is from Pinterest.co. kr.

That is so intriguing. I never knew that. The things women have to do to not get pregnant. What kind of protection were the men using?

It is something we have naturally in the body. Some don't have enough and this causes sleep issues. What that has to do with fertility I'm not quite sure.

The vinegar-soaked sponge idea would probably be at least fairly effective. And a physical barrier would certainly work, they were not as daft as they seem!
