Rent a chicken?

This is the funniest thing I've seen all week. Someone has started a company to rent chickens. It seems like the perfect solution to all the bird flu and egg shortages. Someone is a perfect American capitalist entrepreneur! We bought a few chickens a few years ago, but soon decided they were way too much work and nasty, too. So we gave them away. Almost wish we still had them. Well, not really. I do wish the price of eggs would go down, maybe they will at some point. Would you be tempted to rent a chicken?

No, I don't want the noise and the mess they make. Plus we live at the edge of the city and coyotes could come through the yards and snap them up.

@1creekgirl It doesn't take long if you know anything about chickens.

We live in the country, but it didn't take long to know we didn't want them.

Man, that person sure is industrious. I wouldn’t do it, but I get it. A couple in my church has chickens. They have been very generous with their eggs as they don’t even like eggs. Why did they get chickens then? I’m not really sure.

As expensive, nasty, and labor intensive as chickens can be, I sure wouldn't have them if I didn't want eggs.

Haha never. I would never rent or buy a living chicken. That seems like too much work to deal with. Also, I'm kind of afraid. What if it bites me, chases me around, assaults me? Lol!

You sound like me. I've lived in the country for over 50 years, but I'm still a little bit of a city girl when it comes to things like that.

@1creekgirl I was born and raised in a major city, so I don't have anything country in me. I love animals, but I'm afraid of them too. Funny how that works.

No, not a chicken. I would be tempted to rent a goat or a flock of them to clear out my back yard. They eat all kinds of weeds.

I agree that it is funny to rent a chicken I heard that your country imports eggs from Turkey. I hope it can be helpful to let the eggs less expensive.

I really wouldn't buy something perishable like eggs from another country.

I would understand it if someone rented a rooster to keep hens happy and "make" baby chicks. But I don´t understand the rest.

I don't know how the system would work but there is no guarantee that your chicken will lay an egg every day.

My Dad used to have laying hens. It was my brother's, mine and my mother were responsible for collecting the eggs. When we were in school my Grandpa collected them. He and my mother would clean, grade and pack them for shipping. It was alot of work and care. This was back in the days when you didn't have disposable gloves to wear and you had to be very diligent about hand washing. It was alot of work. Funny enough, we used to have customers who would drive over an hour from home to visit relatives in our area, from Detroit, MI and stop in and buy eggs and order for the next time that they would be in. Imagine attempting to cross the border with fresh eggs these days. Of course they also would go cat fishing and bring back their fresh catch and it was allowed.

I saw an article about this somewhere. I'd be tempted, but with a small garden and plenty of foxes it would be a worry for them. Besides I don't think the neighbours would be too impressed with noise and mess!
