Government employees don't get paid for jury duty

I learned that today. When I signed in and gave the woman my post card she said "you're a government employee right?" I said I work for the Board of Education. She was confused. I said I don't think I'm a government employee (didn't get Elmo's 5 things email) but she said I was. Whatever. I didn't much care.
When I went to print out the attendance letter for today I saw that I was paid $0.00. You are supposed to get paid $5 per day of jury service for the first 2 days and then $40 per day. I didn't stress about it because I knew that I'd get paid my regular amount even if I was out for jury duty. Well apparently "government" employees aren't eligible to be paid.
So I don't get paid for this jury duty crap. At least I don't have to pay for parking to do it.

It just doesn't sound right somehow. I have a teacher friend here and she had jury duty recently, and was paid for it.

That's not right. You should ask again just in case.

Maybe things have changed, but years ago I was paid for beink on a Federal jury even though I was a Federal/State/local Government employee.
