Yup. I was selected as a juror. Ugh. I was hoping they would dismiss me but nope. Here I am. I get to go to work tomorrow, Friday, and Monday because the trial doesn’t start until Tuesday. It is expected to be Tues—Thurs and then maybe the following Tuesday as well. I’ll have to figure out something for the students to do for 3 days. Oh well. In any case I will get paid from work even though I won’t be there. That’s more than others here can say.

I always think of that line in an episode of Brothers: “JURY DUTY is exciting the first time.” Want me to post a lot of Jimmy Buffett songs for you to play in court?

My wife was lucky to have a job as well that paid her full wage during her jury duty obligations, as well as got to keep the small pittance she got from the jury duty itself.

I always found it funny that when they summon you for jury they say how it's your right and privilege to be on a jury yet we never get asked we get told to serve.

Yeah the texts kept saying “thank you for your willingness to serve”. Um who said I was willing to do it?

When my son was on jury duty last year, there was a man next to him that kept going to sleep. He said this guy went to sleep as soon as the trial started, despite being woken, asked if he was OK, etc. He lasted a few hours and then they called in an alternate juror. Evidently he was taking some medication that made him very sleepy.

I lucked out last month to just deal with the daily evening checking in for a week . . . I didn't have to go in. Hopefully it goes quicker than expected.

Well, at least you know now... No more worry/anticipation about serving. You could always assign them to come with you and sit in the halls while you serve. I'm sure the bailiff will have a great time keeping them under control.
