Do you think that the religious places shall charge tickets?

Lately the flowers are blooming everywhere here and I heard the tabebuia chrysanthas are very beautiful in a temple. I planned to take some photos but then I found out they charged tickets to go inside. It is not expensive at all, but this is not the point in my opinion. I just think that the religious places shall not charge tickets at all. They can depend on the donations or something like that. Here there are also other beautiful temples and churches which are totally free of charge to go inside. I just don't understand why that temple is so different to charge people to go inside. Especially I think Buddism is a different religion and they don't seek money as their goal.

I am in favour that temples should not charge money to visit.

Yes, as it is not somewhere to make profit.

@grenery8 Totally agree. It may block those poor belivers. In the past when we travelled to Russia. A church charged the ticket to enter and we didn't go inside. We just took photos outside and that's it

I agree. Seeking money should not be their goal.

It's a common pratice here in the U.S. a curch requires money to run just like any other structure that hosts people. codes and standards are required to be met all of the time. Since it's not designed to run like a business (as it's a place of worship) they need some kind of money coming in. So in addation to the basket being passed around to collect money, they might charge for services like weddings, or other relgiious events. So, a temple charging tickets doesn't sound unreasonable to me.

I can understand that. But it's better to ask for the donations when people go inside to pray. Here people can buy the incense when they are in the temple and it's a kind of income to the temple. Charging tickets looks like business companies.

@youless I can see where they're coming from. They aren't getting enough on sales or voluntary donations to maintain required standards. So they need a guarenteed sorce that they can rely on.

Now some religious places have become very commercial ! They make money under the guise of God.

You are right. Both you and I know some monks are super rich today and being monks are their job in the daytime

Most religious places don't charge. But then there are few that have become very popular and more of tourist destinations. The donations and funds are not enough to maintain it and the huge crowd has to be managed. They charge some minimum amount. Place of worship should be free and accessible to all

In the antient time, the monks farm and they depend on themselves. They wouldn't ask for money. On the contrary, when there was a natural disaster, they would help people instead. Now money rules everything.

Yes, it is also like a door that shut down to those people who want to go inside.

I agree donations should be the way to go, especially since it’s an active place of worship and not a museum. Maybe people aren’t donating enough and they need the money for the upkeep.

If other temples could manage it, then this temple should not have an exception. Here even most museums are free of charge.
