Friends: in life or on line?

A post from another myLotter got me to thinking about friendships.
I have about three or four in person friends. More if I count the ladies in our church. None of them are relatives (we aren't close), but I have many friends here on myLot.
Can the definition of the word "friend" include people you've never met in person?
I believe it can. There are myLotters who are true friends to me. We care about each other and all that's going on in our lives.
I appreciate my in person friends and I greatly appreciate my myLot peeps.
Love y'all!

I consider off line friends as real friends.

@1creekgirl Threre was someone here with whom there were countless interactions and even messages exchanged. They were keen on visiiting India. For whatever reason I do not see that person here and everything has stopped including messaging And now you know what online friends are.

@allknowing I'm sure you were disappointed, but not all on line friendships are like that.

I have a person or two who I might consider a friend. Well, aside from my husband who's my best friend.

@1creekgirl I think that's how it should be. It makes life so much better, and a lot easier to stay with that person for the rest of your life. If you can't be best friends with your spouse, what are you doing?

@kaylachan I agree with what you're saying, Kayla. We'll be married 59 years next month and I wouldn't trade him for anyone. But we've certainly had our issues, in fact, we separated for a whole year one time. But God helped put our family back together.

I guess it's kind of like a pen pal in a way. You develop a closeness in sharing. I do think bonds can be formed and the more you reveal about you and what's going on in your life cements it. So, yes, I agree that people do not have to be face- to- face to develop a friendship. Like a quote I read, "A friend is someone you like that likes you back."

That's a really cool quote. I like "A stranger's a friend you just haven't met yet."

Nowadays,i feel online friends even more than physical friends.ppl perfer to tell inner things to online friend, but keep mute to physical friend.Maybe they think online friend unable to cause damage in real life, because they don't exist in real life, just exist on the net.

You may be right. But there are some things I don't think should be shared on line like personal info.

@1creekgirl ,I agree that personal info should not be shared to whether online or offline friends. Some secrets should be keeped inside our heart.

I do have several ''ride or die'' girlfriends that I've had for years. One of them, over 40 years, we are as close as sisters. I do have a lot of friend in real life, but I have made friends online, too. I enjoy making mylot friends as well, I have met some wonderful people here.

I think online friends are just as much my friends as the ones I've met in person and known most of my life. After all, I've known many myLotters for over ten years and we care about the lives and health of each other just as much as the offline friends do.
One person on myLot told me we're acquaintances, not friends... and that really bothered me.

I like to read the religious advice from some Mylotters on this site since the words of encouragement are wonderful to learn how to live a life with a purpose..

I agree with your opinion. I've been online friends with some people for well over a decade though we've never met. I've been friends with people I met online and still primarily communicate with online but *have* met in person. Honestly a lot of them are better friends than my in-person friends.

Isn't it strange how true that can be?
