That Was Unexpected

During the pandemic four years ago, my grandma lost her beloved pendant that she received from her papa when she was a baby. She wore it everyday on a thin chain until the chain broke one day and the pendant slipped out and fell somewhere while she was out and about. Well, she never found the pendant again and only had her broken chain that was still hanging off her neck when she went home.
Heartbroken, she immediately called my papa to tell him about her missing pendant and he knew exactly what she was talking about because he had seen her wear it all his life. They were both upset about it because they would never find that missing pendant again and because no similar looking pendant can replace the original that had so many cherished memories attached to it.
I was browsing the Nordstrom website again today and found a pendant that was quite similar to the one she lost. I immediately called her and asked her if she wanted the pendant for her birthday. She told me she didn't because it wouldn't replace her original pendant.
In case she changes her mind, I decided to buy it for her anyway. It's much cheaper than her missing pendant, but the design itself is very similar. I hope she likes it. Her birthday is coming soon. I needed to buy her a gift anyway, and I always buy her a piece of jewelry. I didn't expect to find a similar pendant today, so that was unexpected.

Very sad, touching but inspiring. It's true. Some gifts or souvenirs can never be replaced.

Absolutely! I will return the pendant I bought for her if she doesn't like it nor want it.

It never hurts and who knows, but do not do it in public, just in case.

@lilacskies I am sure she will be happy, but I think everyone will appreciate the private surroundings and just being with true family. Some things people seen in their life, stuff means so much to them when they are older.

Haha True. My grandma can't lose this one too. She needs a thicker chain this time too.

@lilacskies It would be very difficult to find it at a busy and crowded street.

@id_peace It was probably stolen as soon as it dropped on the ground anyway.

Around January 2021. It was at a busy, crowded street full of tourists. She tried, but it was useless.

That would be a very thoughtful gift to her and I am sure that she would appreciate it when she gets it. I know that nothing in this world can replace that old pendant that has emotions attached to it.

Thank you! I hope she likes it! I agree with you. It won't replace her old pendant and the memories attached to it, but I hope she can at least wear this.
