The Rich Will Pay Anything Not To Be With The Poor

I am currently at my sister-in-law's summer house in a very popular, touristy destination in the state we live in. Everything costs a lot here. Homelessness is pretty much non-existent unless they are rebellious drug addict vagrants from wealth families couch surfing and sleeping in tents. The rich and the upper middle class live and vacation here.
I had brunch at a fancy restaurant that serves really good bagels with an array of jams and other goodies. It was $40 a person. I would never have paid that much for a simple brunch. That's like a third of my grocery bill anyway. This was my sister-in-law's treat. The total came out to be over $300. My family is thinking of grabbing lunch again at a different restaurant. That restaurant serves seafood dishes and it's like $150 per person for three dishes. If we grab dinner today at another restaurant that we went to in the past, that's $250 per person. I cannot afford any of this. I am enjoying free food while I can.
Everything costs a lot here. Real estate, foods at restaurants, groceries, clothes, everything. The rich will pay anything not to be with the poor. They escape to this location to be among their people and they are willing to shell out hundreds of dollars per day to have fun. I am poor so I am trying my best not to stick out like a sore thumb. I don't think it's working though. Oh well.

Don't try to blend in, and you'll blend in. If your sister is paying, enjoy.

@kaylachan Yes, and chronic pain. Insomnia is gone though. I slept 7 hours two nights in a row.

I agree with you there. Sorry that you are feeling that you don't fit in. Just hang on there and enjoy if you can

Yes, it's not going that well for me. Free food is great, but the overall atmosphere isn't really doing much for me. Always been this way every year I've been here. This year is no different. Thank you so much! I will try my best.

@lilacskies I can relate to that. There are places with all comfort and fancy things and best food. But then you don't fit in there as your heart is somewhere else. Then it is not fun, you don't enjoy it.

@arunima25 Yes, I can't fit in with these people. They are too different from me and they lead such different lives than me. I'm just sticking out though. No choice. I'll be home by the end of Sunday and then focus on my job interview on Monday and go from there. I have some things going on this month.

Me neither. I don't have that kind of money. California is filled with expensive restaurants though. There's even a fancy grocery chain called Erehwon which is Nowhere backwards.

This happens all over the US. The rich simply don't want to be around the poor at all. They hate the poor.

Yes, I am not having that much of a great time. I wasn't having huge expectations since every year is the same for me here anyway.
